Using root!t sponges

These i think are the same as those root riot cubes.................My question is fellow growers, How long can i keep my plants, from seed, inside the humitdy dome in those sponges/cubes before i have to plant them into pots with soil?? Or do people just place the cube/sponge with the seed inside of it straight into soil and not use the whole humidty dome stage?

If its like root riot then keep em in the dome until the plugs show good root growth. Then slowly harden them up by opening the lid some and gruadually lowering the humidity. Then transplant to 4in pots with soil.
