Using Serenade for Mold Prevention in New England

Hi guys

Was just wondering who uses a biofungicide like serenade for mold prevention? I've done everything by the BOOK up until this point and after the tropical hurricane/storm came through i pruned some water-logged lower branches and trimmed/dried the buds to smoke so as to promote air circulation and deter any mold growth. My plants recieve about a gallon- gallon and 1/2 of aerated compost tea once every 2 weeks now in flower (brewed with worm castings, aged bat guano & chicken manure for vitamins and N, fish emulsion for minerals and N, mycorrizhae beneficial bacteria, bone meal for phosphorus & mollasses)...because in addition to promoting growth, i've read that a healthy consistent plant-feeding will strengthen a plant's immune system helping it to ward off infectious mold/mildew as well.

In New England, sometimes the weather becomes rainy in mid-late september- that critical time of year when our buds begin to swell with that sweet sticky aroma. I have a good idea of how to properly dry/cure as to avoid mold, but want to be sure to avoid mold while the crop is still going as well

So anyways "Serenade" is an organic fungicide that sounds like it's effective in combating or preventing the most common molds such as grey mold (botrytis)...again the reviews i've read just state "don't use right before harvest" just because of the poor smell/taste

What you guys think, just go ahead and buy it/mist it on my plants before/after rain late in the season?

+rep for 1st-hand experience/insight:leaf: TY!

No response yet eh? I stopped by Walmart, Lowes & Home Depot today...didn't find any serenade but I did get this sulfur dust...do you think this will be effective in helping to prevent botrytis (common grey mold) or other molds? Sticking it out to the end this year, lettin the ladies ripen to the max

i haven't used the serenade but i have already had botryitis on my plant's this year and i researched and found a method for using baking soda and water after a helpful tip from a friend. I cut out all the infected part's and then sprayed it down with the solution and it's been over a week now and i haven't noticed anymore rot. I have heard people talking about good result's with greencure also. Good Luck man

before you buy something that may or may not work put a little milk in a spray bottle and then fill it with water , spray it on the plants. come back tomorrow and tell us how great that worked.

I never liked the milk idea it may work but, seems like it would attract bugs as it spoiled and then you gut spoiled milk sticking to your buds, just seemed gross to me.

I think he's a East coast guerrilla grower, and last thing i'd want is a extension cord running from house to some MJ plant's.....lol

Yes, I can see how that might become problematic. Losing plant material to powdery midew is really gross!! The weak milk solution just disapeared

sulfer will make your buds taste funky, nasty, if you don't rinse that sulfer off real good. I've never tried milk, but I'm with tristyn on this, milk just sounds like a bad idea to me too.

Also new england here. Interested in mold prevention as well, I have been picking little catapillars off my buds and am now worrying about mold. I have one plant that will be ready in about 2 weeks, but my 2 big ones won't be ready till 2nd week of Oct. or so...

I am in NE also...and grow in a greenhouse..after the hurricane rain I had 1 plant out of 16 get rot on the small buds....I got some serenade and sprayed them and have 2 fans blowing on the plant also...I added a dehumidifier and 2 big exhaust fans...so far i seem to have it controled...I also bought some Greencure to be armed with good fungicides...

but the real cure is to keep the air moving over the plant to keep it dry....its raining like hell out now and about to go check them....will do a greencure spray also for prevention...

This is a bad time for NE growers...rain rain rain ..Humidity....keep them dry....

Oh the rest of the plants are fine..its just 1 plant thats effected..Trainwreck...rest are fine...

It smells like dead bodies.... no joke but works. I was growing indoors I had three rooms and the power went out one winter for like 2 or 3 days? +/- it got cold with NO air movement I got powdery mildew. It cured the worst case of powdery mildew I had eve seen in +/- a week.

I burnt sulfur several, times actually on a regular schedule like once or twice a week. the surfer melts a film of crap to every thing including bulbs and or glass covers on your hoods. kept up the regiment all winter long and never had a complaint or noticed a funny taste. As long as you are willing to wash the film off everything and have a huge powdery mildew problem and or just want to keep a problem from forming it would be one of my first choice.... after seranade but before safers mildew spray ( which works great as well ).

I have not tried the sulfur spray or powered just the burning. So I have no idea if those two make your bud taste funny.
:blsmoke:

I am stoned...... I burn sulfur indoors it would do you little to no good outside... sorry about that
