Veg duration- How long?

Hi All,

I'm a newbie using a bubbleponics system. I have 1feminized Nirvana Northern Lights growing in veg. Day 0 was Aug 12th, so it's been about 6 weeks since she was started germination. Everything looks to be going great and I've avoided any root or pH issues this grow. I fimmed her at her 5th node and she hasn't skipped a beat.

She is REALLY, REALLY bushy, to the point that I have to move the leaves to be able to see the center stalk. She is about 8 inches tall and about 12-16 inches in diameter. I was expecting her to be short, by not this short. I also didn't think she'd be this dense with leaves. So far, all the leaves look great and don't appear to be complaining about lack of light, although it's surprising given how thick her leaves have gotten. I was planning a scrog if she started banching out too much.

My questions:

When should I start flowering? I had read that it's normal to keep in veg for 8 weeks, but the pictures I've seen people post, their plants are tiny compared to mine. I'm sure the strain has a lot to do with it, but it still looks like they may have started veg after 3-4 weeks.

I was thinking about making some clones from her. Should I do this before or after begining flowering? Should I wait until she's declared her sex officially? If I wait, and she's a girl, would that guarantee that all clones made from here would also be girls?

Thanks in advance!

Hey I veged my coco coir jack herer plants for around 6-8 weeks. Now 2 weeks into flower the plants are huge! Wish I had started flower a month after germination.

Flower it now. Would be easier if we knew your available space and actual measurements of the plant.
Indicas usually double in size, sativas can triple. Take that into account when deciding if you're ready to
flower. And yes, if it's a female, all clones will be female.

The height of your grow space should help you determine when to flip. Measure from the top of your bubble system to about a foot below the light. Then divide by 3 for plants that triple in flower, or by 2 for plants that double. If you're not sure for your strain, post a direct question in a new thread -- "what's the stretch on Nirvana Northern Lights?" -- and let people tell you.

When your plant reaches the height that you've calculated, you're ready to flower.

Measure the height of your girls, add 50% to the height and that should give you a safe number for your flowering. So if your girl is 15 inches tall when you flower it will end up 22-24 inches. This a rough guide and only you can tweak it to suit your space and genetics...JAS
