veggie stage and question

well my plants are in the veggie stage and i was wondering how much light they should be getting. i've heared that giving them 24 hours of light is the best, is this true?

i don't recommend that

18 hours light, 6 hours dark, is what you will read endlessly in this forum, and from well-known growers

24 hours is okay for seedlings and clones, but nothing else

Nothing wrong with 24/0 whatsoever. I personally use 18/6 for the sole reason of it being that little bit cheaper on the old electricity bill.

both opinions are reasonable. and feasable. choose the one that suits your needs. the plants don't care either way.

What about in flowering? Just a straight 24/0 all the way through? Or you just mean in vegging cause I know there are strains that need 12/12 in order to flower correctly but I could be wrong. Still trying to educate myself.

this post was a question about vegging, not flowering. all strains but autos need 12/12 to flower.

i used to do 24/0 but then i tried 20/4 and my plants looked healthier.
the dark period is important,especially when you find out what cannabis plants do during the dark period.
yes you can get away with 24/0,but your plants will look a little lethargic.

But a dark period needed when they are still sprouts? I think that's where I'm getting confused at, I am not sure if the veg light cycle is the same from sprout up until you begin to flower or do you start the sprout under 24/0 and then shift into 20/4 or 18/6?

We are immitating nature. Not the other way around. Now ask yourself how many places on the globe get 24 hours of sunlight how many places cannabis grows and you should be able to answer your own question with regard to seedlings :)

Its all a matter of personal choice. Just do what you want. Most people go 18/6 i do a 20/4 cycle. In both cases i personally like giving plants a dark period. It encourages root growth... would you like to stay up 24/7? If no... Neither does your plants. Most living organism need a rest period. Once again its just my opinion... alohaz...

Thanks for the help and yeah I guess it does make sense, it just gets confusing when you're reading the different settings people are growing under indoors.

The issue I see with starting at 24/0 is the risk of stunting growth when switching to 18/6. Is this a normal issue or a preferred working method? I know everyone has their own preference. I am probably going to start with 18/6 though.

24 is good for the seedlings and cuttings like was said before. i have done the 24 hour thing during veg and truthfully my plants seemed to grow better when I put them into the 18/6. It seems they need that 6 hours of dark for whatever reason. Just my expierence

When is a plant no longer a seedling? I thought seedling meant once it was out of the seed it was no longer a seedling. I'm told otherwise. My first plant ever is about 2'' high now. It's about 7 days old. The first sigh of sprout was on Friday June 29th and today, (Wednesday July 4th) it is still only about 2'' tall.

Back to my root question. Is it still considered a seedling or is it now vegetating and should be under 18/6?
