Veggin' With HPS....

Hey, sorry if this question has been asked a million times. I searched and could not find what I was looking for.

What are the benefits and drawbacks to vegging with an hps bulb. Its my Flowering bulb, an expensive ass Ushio. I have been vegging the new girls with it for about a week and am looking for reasons to be lazy and leave the HPS in my hood. I know the HPS make alot more light and I know light intensity is critical. More lumens with the hps and the hps is a good bulb versus a thirty dollar MH bulb. Lumens VS useable spectrum I guess?

TIA!

blue spec produces tighter lusher foliage, however, both work. hps is generally a little leggier, not much, smaller leaves.

i use 20$ mh bulbs with fantastic results. i save the super duper kw flower power for flowering.

You can veg with fluoros.Read on a seed catalog a while back, that they grow and bloom with 600watt hps,I think it was HGFantaseeds.

I would get an MH conversion bulb and use that during veg then switch the bulbs when you adjust the time for flowering. You can also veg under flouros and they also work nicely but its kinda hard to beat the results you get with MH and HPS combo.
