Vegging Questions

I have a couple questions on vegging good old mary jane...... first off does the vegetative stage start as soon as i seen a little green girl poking out of the soil or is it after a certain amount of development. Also im planning on using LST using the spiral pattern. With this method do i want to go to 12/12 when it goes all the way around the pot or earlier since is will probably triple in size during flowering. Using LST cause im doing a micro grow. Thanks.

You want to go 12/12 at the height you want for evoriment or where you want it. Started my LST at 2 weeks in veg, i got to where i want it then i switched to 12/12.

I consider it vegetative when it has a few real leaves and starts to look like a plant. What you have is a seedling. Start lst as soon as it gets a few inches out of the pot. I would abandon the spiral idea and just tie the main branch down and top it at 7 or 8 nodes. Then tie down the branches as needed/supercrop.

i LST mine about half way around the pot. just keep in mind, if you veg your plant big enough, you may eventually need to put it in a bigger pot. you may want to keep your newer side branches bent down also. the key is to try to keep your plants max height even. this way when you flower, all the branches will get more even lighting.

I was confused for a long time because everything I read had a different definition of seedling, vegging plant, etc.
I finally figured it out after a dozen grows and keeping meticulous notes in my grow journal. As I plotted size in inches
compared to days in dirt a pattern emerges. For the first 2 weeks or so after the germinated seedling is in dirt the vertical
growth is almost non-existent. It is not unusual to see a plant grow just one to two inches for an entire week immediately
upon getting in dirt. The reason is the plant is spending 90% of it's energy building a strong extensive root supply. After a
couple weeks of this slow vertical growth they will start to take off and grow an inch or more per day after they get going. That
point where the plants starts switching energy from mostly root-making to foliage production is when the seedling enters
the vegatative state. In my journals and notes I use the term DD for days in dirt. That way I don't have to keep track of when
each strain starts vegging.

Good Luck, BigSteve.
