venting a cool tube in a grow tent

in a 3'x3'x5' grow tent, with a 6" metal halide or hps cool tube with ducting going outside the tent into a 6" inline fan blowing into a carbon fiter would i be able to have the other end of the tube open to vent the air from the tent itself through the cool tube, or do i need a seperate fan for venting the tent and coolign the tube?

wait are you saying your ducting from the light is connected to a carbon filter? this is a no go unless you have 1 end open from the light that either has an inline fan or booster fan to suck air from inside the tent and not the outside. if your doing it from the outside then you should remove the carbon filter and attach it to an inline fan that is just sucking air from inside the room, youll also need to have an air flow coming in so a small booster fan attached to one of the vent holes will suffice for a tent that size.

if you need any help just ask i got good info on venting cheaply

ok so fan blowing directly into the cooltube, then ducted to a carbon filter? what about a filter, then the fan then the tube, then ducted out? would that work?

Inline fans suck better than they blow. With single fan, you need a passive intake (opening in the tent preferably near the floor) Filter in the tent with duct to hood then duct from hood to fan which can be either inside or outside the tent, I'd recommend outside.

EDIT: If you're using flexible duct then it would be better to just mount the fan directly to the filter sucking tent air through the filter and have it blow through the tube and out the tent.

if your venting from the inside of the tent then have it carbon filter,fan,cooltube, then ducting running to a vent hole with an open end and no filter, this will work and be better as hot air of those temps id assume be bad on the filter, make sure to atleast have an air intake with either a small booster fan or just leave the vent holes open but make sure if the vent holes are open then have your exhaust fan constantly sucking air from inside the room and through the filter because if its on at random times or every few minutes then the smell can linger outside the tent.

but ya imagine it like this,

floor = ____

intake fan = >

carbon filter = -

light/cooltube = ¤

ducting = +++

wall = |

|____>-¤++++|

one more thing, would i need to run this fan at full speed to keep the bulb cool or would i be able to use a lower setting to help keep the noise down?

I have my carbon filter with inline can fan in my tent running 24/7. Lower intake slot on tent has a small rectangular fan running 24/7 for cool air "in". My cool tube houses a 1000 hps that has one end open and the other connected to 8"duct running to ceiling exhaust slot in tent. Where duct connects to ceiling I have an 8" inline fan running 24/7. I've got a constant airflow going which helps my tents temps drop during the dark phase which brings about more colors in bud.

your tent should have flaps with netting on the bottom and circular pockets in a few different places, open one of the vent flaps at the bottom and make sure all the curcular holes with soicks are sealed up tight, this will let the passive intake come in from the one place and shouldnt allow any air to escape the tent.

Heres a couple of ideas. I live in a cold humid climate. 48'F daytime high 38'F at night. 65%-95%RH
I only vent out my heat in the summer. My 600w doesnt produce very much heat and it doesnt cause light stress as easy as a 1000w HPS. The dimensions of the 2'6"wide and 6'tall. Hope this helps:lol:

Through my reading I have found that the best way is (with gear in tent) - Filter - Fan - Cooltube - ducting venting out of tent. Can place any ducting between Filter/Fan/Cooltube as needed. The main reason for this setup is to prolong life of your filter and fan (No hot air from the light passing through them) Peace!!

Of course you can and by doing this you dont need an exhaust fan just an intake with air under 80 if room is sealed. also be aware that air doesnt move thru ducting very well with a 90deg bend, have more arc type bends if needed and a centrifigual fan pulling the air thru.
