Venting Question

hey guys. new to growing. trying to look up everything before i start. after much research i have decided to go with an indoor growing tent from htgsuppy.com.
High Tech Garden Supply
it has everything .... i hope
but there is one thing i don't seem to understand, which is venting. this grow tent comes with an inline fan with a cfm of 80 which should be good for this grow tent (if not please correct me). but my question is how does this fan work? is it pulling air in or fanning air out? and how/where do i attach a carbon filter? do i need another fan plus ducts for it? lastly, is it okay/safe to let the air flowing out past the carbon filter to exhaust out into another room (my bedroom)?

edit:
oh and also! how many plants can i grow with this setup?

lots of questions, i know. but any input/advice will help a lot. thanks guys

I will try to help since I have asked the same question myself though I have never used a tent.

Exhaust fans should be placed to blow air out. You also need an intake hole. Normally the exhaust fans are placed towards the ceiling (hot air rises) and the intake holes are located near the floor. You won't need a fan for intake, just a hole larger than the exhaust. This is called passive intake and you need it to avoid creating a vacuum in the grow space.

The carbon filter can be placed inside the tent with duct work attached to the exhaust fan which still blows out. For a complete stealth grow, exhaust the air back into the tent. But it is much, much better to exhaust the air to outside the tent so fresh air is always circulating around the plants.

And if you don't have room inside the tent for the carbon filter you can run duct work to it from the exhaust fan outlet.

Something to keep in mind, fans can get over worked if they have to push or pull through a lot of duct work.

thanks man! that clears a lot of things up. could i use the inline fan that they provide me with and just buy a carbon filter to attach to it?

Yes - in fact I think they make two carbon filters: the goblin and the elf, just for hydrohut style tents. But there are a lot of filters to choose from. In fact, there are a few DIY odor control ideas in the FAQs - but i haven't tried them.

I read on here someone was using kitty litter mixed with pine-sol to mask the smell.
