Can anyone explain why vero29 are more than half the price of cxb3590's but can handle more max wattage, has just as many lumens, and is offered in all CCTs?
http://rollitup.org/t/cob-efficiency-spreadsheets.865238/Ya. Now looking into the cxb3070's rather than 3590's. I seriously cannot make up my mind. What's the true advantage to the 35s over 30s?
Your "cooled' design is confusing me. Also, I don't know why anyone would wanna run them at 52W each. They're capable of 5 times that.I'd go with a 1400 & buy 4 drivers. You'll get muuuuch better yields.I run 8 veros at ~ 100w each at the end of bloom. I increase the power at the end to better finish lower budz. I have purchased 2 heat sinks 10" x 40" to passively cool 16 cxb3590's. I have a coolhood design on the assemblies. So they will be "cooled" by the 4" carbon filter setup which will move just ~100 cfm of air. I will be able to run up to 800w but should need about 600 to get the same grams. Better coverage as well. 16 light sources in 11 sq ft. I have 1 almost ready to hang. The other gets drilled and tapped today. It should save about $8 a month in electric. I have cheap electric.
By the time the LEDs are at 70% of their initial output there will already be new COBs that are 2 generations ahead.I'm also curious to see how the price of vero29, b3070 and b3590 compare for my veg area.
I'm thinking that it might be nice to save some $ and go cheaper, but if I runb3590 at 700ma I should (hopefully) get a much longer life out of them.
Precisely. Run them harder.By the time the LEDs are at 70% of their initial output there will already be new COBs that are 2 generations ahead.
Unless you have something in particular that you'd want to run each COB at 23-26W?I'm also curious to see how the price of vero29, b3070 and b3590 compare for my veg area.

Efficiency goes down the harder they are driven. The idea behind running COB's softly is that they still put out a lot of light for lower current draws.Precisely. Run them harder.
Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400?I don't know why anyone would wanna run them at 52W each. They're capable of 5 times that.I'd go with a 1400 & buy 4 drivers. You'll get muuuuch better yields.
Did you know you could get a 100W COB for $5? I'm thinking these might be the best for you. After looking at that, am I right to assume the large price difference for 35s over 30s really isn't that worth it?
I'm just and idiot and typed 52 instead of 27-28. I'm sorry man. Not trying to confuse people at all. I'm going to get 9 3590s 3 to a 30" heatsink on 120-1400b. I want it to run hard but I'll be able to dim it. Honestly with those dimmable meanwells, I might even run it on a 240 2100b. So I can get 75-80 watts max. Then I can dim it down and choose what I'm wanting at that time.Efficiency goes down the harder they are driven. Many softer driven COB's will give more light, better coverage, and deeper canopy penetration when compared to fewer COB's driven at a higher current, watt for watt.
Running them hard is much cheaper up front. Less chips and less drivers.
Running COB's soft is more expensive, but for many, the benefits outweigh the cost.
Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400?
This driver is meant to run these chips at 1.4A each... As I've explained, Vf * A = WATTS
CXB3590(36V) has Vf of 34.9 @ 1.4A = 48.9 WATTS
Factor in efficiency losses and you are looking at 50-52 Watts per CXB3590 @ 1.4A
I really don't understand what you are saying, and don't want others getting confused.
Haha very funnyDid you know you could get a 100W COB for $5? I'm thinking these might be the best for you.
If You are in Australia Digi-Key (Australia) is offering Vero 29 COBs At A$34.99. This compares favourably with Mr Jerry even if you could get him down to US$25 a cob. Spend over A$200 and its free postage (from the US!!
