Very high temps using a 400w mh/hps

I have a grow box I recently constructed! It is 2'x2'x5' and I am using a phantom 400 watt digital ballast and hydro farm daystar hood. Using a ecoblast 4" inline duct fan pushing 160 cfm! Also I have three small fans inside and a light box with a fan in the outside and I am getting temps of 85f above the lights and almost 102f below! I have my fan connected right to the top of my hood! Is this the best way?? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Is your fan that is connected to the hood blowing or pulling the air through. Fans tend to do a better job pulling than they do pushing. Also, do you have ducting connected to the hood, so the fan can vent out of the room? Do you have an intake hole, or fan hooked up? any more info or even pics could help : )

I would be using a 250w in that space or be using a 400cfm fan. Do you have an intake? Either passive or powered?

i got temp problems too. about the same size as yours as well. using a 4 inch inline fan with carbon filter. i think the only solution is to simply get a 6 inch fan instead of 4.

The first thing to do is to put your hand over the glass sea, in every place, incuding the exterior welds. Make sure it's not blowing ot air. Second, if it's at all possible, see if you can run the ballasts outside the room, they're friggin hot, mine sure are.

I would invest in a air temp/humidity controller. They can turn on inline driven air into the space, and one pulling out the hot.

If your res temp is a problem, try running a good sized air pump with a quality metal bubbler....you can run the intake from a nice frosty spot in your home with no noise.

With that space you definitely need a larger vent fan pulling air from your light. Which daystar hood are you using? I googled it and some have 6" holes for cooling and some do not. Also you may be better served to use a 250W light in that space if you do not have an air cooled reflector with a strong enough vent fan.

What is your air intake like? Is it at the bottom of the room? What is the ambient temperature of the room that this set up is in?

Lastly, if your down to spend some money, the 400W CMH bulb runs cooler than HPS or MH, but requires a magnetic (not electric) ballast.

check out the best deals thread, the vent fan listed in the second post is at a great price, and it may solve all your problems! I had to buy one to replace a lower CFM 6" fan in my 2.5x2.5 space after my 250W light broke and i had to install a 400W light. With air intake at the floor and the fan sucking air out, my canopy temperature is now around 82F, compared to the 95F before i replaced the fan. Then again I use philips CMH bulb which runs cooler than the HPS or MH
