Walmart Soil

I used to buy that miracle grow moisture control stuff... I forget the nute ratio but its something very very low good for young plants. Its got peat and perlite mixed in if I remember correctly.

I recently bought the cheapest stuff they had and a bag of perlite and am gonna try mixing my own.
I believe they have a few different kinds of schultz brand soils too.

From what I know your best bet is to get something with perlite in it for good drainage, and something that doesn't have fertilizer or slow release fertilizer in it so you can have more control over how much nutrients your plants are getting.
Then again Ive heard a few people have good results with soils that come with fertilizer.

Personally I like to play it safe :]
Hopefully someone else can give you a more definitive answer :P

any of that soil is fine...i've used them all before and had same results... what i did was start off in the MG organic choice until time to transplant then i used some of that other stuff with that had nutes... no sign of burn... i started using Fox Farm soils and i love it...NO BUGS!!!!

My 2 cents I've always heard when buying soil if you must go to somewere like walmart.Always get the most expensive you get what you pay for!

You can pick up perilite and vermiculite in 2-3 cu foot bags cheap at lowes or OSH. I buy whatever base soil is on sale then add my own mix. Fox farms is good if you want to take no chances and got $$$.

It is like $15 for a big bag of ocean forest, that isn't that expensive especially considering how much better it is compared to other cheaper soils

I pay $22 for Ocean Forest or Happy Frog at my local Hydro store. WELL worth the extra $$$. BUT, despite what some will say here, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Miracle Gro time-release soil. You just have to be careful when adding nutes for the first 8 weeks.
