I would say bigger if you can, but no need to go silly. Chances are at some point in the very near future you will want more then 1, and this will save you the hassle of rebuilding. For example my grow room is 4 x 3 and just over 5ft tall, which is big enough for my 4 plants, fan, water (so that it is at the right temperature, not straight from the tap), and has room to move about easily.

Also if you are planning on growing big plants with HPS lights, 5ft might not be tall enough... but i'm guessing you'll go CFL anyway

You can always buy yourself a second hand or cheap new cabinet or wardrobe. I've seen a lot of people doing that.

Or you can build a grow 'tent' like I did. I used a small plastic greenhouse as the frame to build my tent on and made it with cardboard duct tape and heart. Not really a tent I guess. Have a look if you like

Second hand wardrobe is prob the easiest way to go, as the main structure is there, and if your lucky it will already have a usefull set of draws and shelves for storage and grow solutions, and they usually have a clothes rail that is easily strong enough for a light reflector :) happy days!

If you want to build one, you could always build a basic timber frame (I can give you DIY tips on how to do this, but if i'm honest if you're gonna try to build one, it would prob be best if you had good enough DIY skills to figure out a frame work) (that's not meant to sound like a cuss in any way, so sorry if it does) and then wrap it in this and secure with gaffa tape/duct tape. its both insulated and reflective

2x2x5=
2-3 4x8 peices of plywood.
3-4 2x4s
200-300 screws
Door hinges and lock

Build that then you'll know if you need that expanding foam or silicon to seal your room.

I've seen 4$-35$ 2x4s and 6$-60$ plywood. I'd get something 2-8bucks higher then minimum.

Just measure out your space twice and im sure you'll do a decent job.

Advice for building it, screw on 4pieces of 2x4 on 2 peices of plywood, then on the other two only attach horizontal so you can screw everything in without it falling down on you.

I'd make it 6½ feet tall to be honest, im not squatting to water my plants. Nor am I hitting my head on an off day.

this seems like the most I deal..... if you have any ideas on all the shit I need after I build the box like lights vents ect it would be SUPER appreciated if that that's a great start

More pricey than plywood but unfaced rigid foam is a superior material choice. The Styrofoam has reflective qualities equal to the best. Lightweight easy to knock down and store. self insulating. Rigid. Cuts easily with a serrated knife and is repairable

2x2 is 4sq feet so I'd only use a 300 or 400watt bulb(depending on your pocket and expectations).
Try ebay for some really good prices, or your local hydro store to find everything else you need.

Inline exhaust fan, inline booster fan, ducting, and if your trying no to disturb anyone who lives around you a carbon filter is a must.

Also a circulating fan inside your room is a good idea.

Hey, im gonna toss my experience in the ring. I am no expert, but I have built a cab....
3 ft wide x 7ft tall x 17 inches deep for just a few plants. I ran this setup for about 6 years. I made it out of an metal storage cabinet. Like this..

But then you gotta build it out, cut the exhaust holes, put up mylar, drill more holes and hangers for the lights, cords, etc, then make it light proof.

Or for a mere $80.00 , probably a hell of a lot less than your gonna spend making numerous trips to the hardware to pick up the nickel and dime shit that adds up to hundreds of dollars. You can have a grow tent made for what you wanna do !
Vents for fans... check, light tight... check. Mylar covered... check. Non-toxic to plants... check. Water proof.. check.
Durable..... check. Can tear down in bout 10 min if needed... check.

To me this just makes perfect sense. Your GONNA spend $80.00 on wood and supplies alone to build your box IMO. They have several sizes to meet your needs too. Click Here

.....wow lol that makes A LOT of sense lol what site would be best?
See my last post..... it says.... " Click Here "

This is where I ordered my tent from after extensive research. Some sell PVC (white) interior tents that emit a toxic gas.. fuckin Chinese cheapos. This company sells real Mylar lined with a Oxford cloth exterior.

I have a box that is slightly smaller than the specs you mentioned, but it is super cheap though. It's made out of a U-Haul wardrobe box, a handfull of CFL's, a couple cheap fans, a handfull of paint stirring sticks for added support around the frame and the door, and some masking tape. Here's some pics. The box is 21" x 18" x 46" (10.0 cu/ft). I have two plants growing in it now. It comes with a metal hanger bar that fits in the top and you can hang lights or wires on it too. The cardboard is thick and heavy duty. Here's a few pics of mine.

This guy is right in all honesty. Even with using a cardboard box you're going to spend close to that amount anyways, and you're always going to find things to add to your box, or take away as time goes. Either way it's either money wasted if you take away, or more money spent if you add. I regret not buying a tent in the first place. I have one now, but going to finish out my grow in this box before I move to the tent.
