Warning Posting Jpg files

I some advice on posting jpg files. You should remove the exif info. I don’t know if the posters know but some jpg store the camera make and serial. Some now store the GPS loc  of where the photo was taken. The easiest way for most of you to remove this is to view in windows, copy to clip board and paste in paint then save for your upload. If you need to prove this to yourself just open any of the original – see click for original – save file and use a exif viewer to see for yourself. The newer cell phones are storing the GPS as well as high end cameras. You can also save to bmp and then back to jpeg to remove this. PS rename the file when posting if you camera creates a so called random name.

This could be fixed at the server, run a script to remove exif from all, or remove the click for original but that would suck.

This info is used to track photos and people. If the same camera is used to post to face book you can run a search and now know more about who sent it. Some times just type the serial number of the camera on the tec support page to check warranty status and the name and address of the owner comes up.

PS I am just a grower wantabe.:bigjoint: I think this site is great, just helping in protecting our rights to grow a PLANT. Please keep this info for growers, it is used to catch scum of the earth all the time on other sites.
Hope some how you all read this, I could reply to photo posters but then you all would hate me.

if you crop a photo sometimes it can be uncroped with software. You think you cut out your face but you really didn't when the right software is used.

there is another way you can do it, get your pic, right click on it and click properties, click the Details tab, the a blue link at the bottom will say Remove Properties and Personal Information, tick whatever you want, then click ok, done.

After trying both approaches and right clicking on the new (copy) of photo, i still am able to view details like location of file on my computer and computer owner. Maybe I am doing it incorrectly but I don't think so.
