Washing up liquid is something very important for me and my family.
Lately our dinner table discussions have been only orientated toward washing-up liquid.
My husband Charles clearly beleives that the all new Persil Washing Up Liquid that contains a unique dual active system that will clean your cutlery, dishes, pots and pans better than ever before but on they other hand
I've been buying Tesco Value Concentrated Automatic Biological Liquid Wash (to give it it's full title) for years now - probably for as long as Tesco has been selling their Value range.
There are several reasons for my loyalty:a) I find washing liquid works really well on a low temperature wash - it dissolves better than powder or tablets.
b) It's great for pre-soaking - I even use it for hand-washing (on the odd occasion when I actually do wash something by hand)c) I've always found Tesco Value liquid wash to be just as good as the brand leaders such as Ariel and Persil.
d) Lastly, and probably most important of all at £1.47 for a 1 litre bottle it represents excellent value for money. For all the years that I've been buying the product it has come in a chunky, slightly pear-shaped bottle - for years I've been grabbing the bottle off the supermarket shelf knowing exactly what I was getting. Recently though, things have changed ...........
The first noticeable change is that the liquid now comes in a tall, skinny bottle with an integral handle. It still holds 1 litre of liquid. I like this new packaging it's much more stream-lined than the old one and takes up far less space in the "glory hole" that is my under-sink cupboard. If only it was just the design of the bottle that's changed! the "old" liquid was bright white and thick. The new version is yellowy white, thin and runny. It's like skimmed milk in comparison to double cream. But if that wasn't bad enough - the smell of the new liquid is revolting! The old liquid really had a "classy" smell about it - if you didn't know better you would think you were using a top of the range liquid - it smelt fresh and clean.
The smell of the new liquid reminds me of dank, damp cellars with a hint of public loos about it! I know that sounds a bit extreme but it is very similar to the sort of really cheap and nasty stuff that Local Authorities probably buy in bulk to mop over toilet floors. Urrgh! Horrible!
Which to choose?
