So I have my plant in a 3 gallon pot using happy frog medium , I gave it 1 gallon of water “16 cups” after I watered it, It drained out 8 1/2 cups water “just over half”.... so u would figure... that’s too much runoff.... so how much water should I really be using?

was that from dry or just damp soil?

you could use a tray under the pot and allow the water to be sucked up into the pot, this is what i do with any plant or veg i grow in pots

if you start with a given amount of water and give it time to suckit up, you can take a measurment from that.

I water until I get a cup or 2. I think getting run off is mostly to wash salt buildup down and out of the pot/medium before it becomes an issue. As long as the pots don't sit in it I think you are good.

I hope if I am wrong someone saves you!

I had my pot sittin on a rack so the pot wasn’t sittin IN the runoff water and when I dumped it it was 8.5 cups of water
