Watering with rain water that has been treated with RO system?

Do you see ANY downside for the quality of water when it's rainwater as long as it would be filtered with RO system?

I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm trying to understand the concept.

I remember reading from somewhere that it's polluted and too acidic.

If it's not healthy to drink it, is it healthy for the plants?

The reason why I'm asking those questions is that I'm looking for the way to conserve/store large amounts of water, because I don't have access to water where I'm growing.

So I came up with the plan:
1) collect rainwater
2) clean it up with RO system
3) store it and maintain its purity with the help of UV sterilizer/filter
4) use it

I haven't yet figured out what capacity should I be looking at when choosing an UV filter to keep X amount of water clean for one grow (4-5 months).

I mean... if there's 1000 liters of water to maintain it's purity, then how many times per hour/day does it have to be filtered through UV filter?

Happen to have taken a look outside of your garden's location? Notice any plants naturally growing? Do they look healthy?

Now, what sort of water do you think is responsible for their prosperity?

I would also boil that water. So, collect rain water. Pump that shitty/contaminated h20 through an RO/DI(don't forget the DI, very important), than boil that shit. Why not? :bigjoint:

*edit: oh yeah, then send that almost pure h20 through a UV sterilizer. Just might work ;-)

Rainwater is purer than your tap water. Somebody's filling your head with nonsense

Collecting and storing rainwater at some remote location is going to be a LOT of work. If there is no local source of water and it's to far to transport, then you should find a differant location.

Can you explain your opinion? Why is it so hard to collect and store rainwater?

Collecting rainwater could be as easy as placing a drum/barrel where water falls down from the roof, but there are better methods out there too.

To store it, I would need to clean it up from bacteria, hence the RO system.

I would need to pre-filter water before it hits RO system for the sake of increasing the lifetime of RO filters.

.. and some pumps.. and a pressurizer... and few more things.

Shouldn't be that hard.

LOL @Helmut79 you really don't know when your legs are being pulled off, do you?

First, what is rainwater? CONDENSATE.

Second, if it's acidic, what's the molarity? Hint; pretty Fuckin' low, not going to hurt anything but pine trees growing in acid soils.

Third, how do you figure it's polluted? Refer to #1 above.

Let me guess, you're growing in soil too, right?

LMFAO!

No bacteria in rain water, not harmful anyways. The best way to store rain water is under ground. When you bury your drum or cistern no light gets to it and no algea or bacteria can grow.

There is no need for ro filter or UV for rain water. Serious, like already stated look around everything grows with rain water.
Where did you get the idea rain water is too acidic or too much bacteria to grow with?

Rain water is mostly cleaner than ro water. It is also better for your plants. Dont ruin That by running it through filters and UV. At the most run it through a cheap filter for debris.
