Watering

Hey guy, might be a dumb question but, here it goes.

In what week only do you have to start watering plants till 10-20% run-off?
I can’t imagine feeding till run-off for a little seedling.

I will be growing in a 6 gallon pot with coco (70) x perlite (30) mixture.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Once they start using up water and have some true leaves then i bump to full waterings, just depends on size of pot aswell as plant uptake.
Ya i dont full water seedlngs as they are sensitive to overwaterings.
Just water around seedling only giving them enough to use quickly, dont want them sitting in an oversarurated pot.

I usually start watering until runoff when they have 2-3 sets of multi-fingered leaves.

What size pot they in atm?
I water as soon as i see first theee finger leaves.

If growing in a 6 gallon pot id suggest that you should water the soil fully to begin with then leave to drain and then plant. This should then give the plant enough water to grow for a few weeks before requiring another water or until the first 1-2" of soil is dry. As you have said the pot is a 6 gallon, so it really depends on the size of the plant, if its only a seedling or a few weeks old the plant shouldn't require any more water until the more leaves have grown. On the other hand if its established plant then it will require more water regularly (hence soil drying out faster). Really it depends on conditions of growing, but a good rule of thumb is to wait until the first 2" of soil are dry before watering again. Too much watering and the roots wont stretch out and bed into the soil to hold the plant firm in place and the roots will typically only grow in the top 6" of soil. Letting the soil dry a little will encourage them to seek out water from lower down in the pot, which will hold the structure of the plant better.
