Depends on how long you're going to veg. At some point in time they will all stretch and try and get as much light as they can(not caring what the other plants want) basically a "every plant for itself" and when this happens, you have to move them farther away from each other, resulting in a bigger foot print that a 1K can't preform, resulting in shitty growing...

Loved that KOTH eps BTW... Watched it over and over again.. Netflix, Season 1 eps 22 :D

I would go more on lumens per square foot over wattage per plant.

You want minimum of 5k lumens per square foot.

Yep. You want lumens not watts. Per square foot.
3000 lumens ft/2 minimum plant growth
5000-6000 lumens ft/2 average plant growth
8000+ lumens ft/2 vigorous plant growth

1000watt light will cover a 8x8 ft. Area.

A 1000 watt light will not cover a fucking 8x8 area. A 1000 watt covers 4x4 at most. And thats with HPS.

With Mh you might be able to cover a 4x4 for vegging or 3x3 for budding.

Anyone who claims a 1000 watt covers 8x8 has never covered 8x8 or they would not be saying that.

I hope this helps you. I can see your confused. :)

From what I understand, and have been using as a rule of thumb... a minimum of 50W HID/sq ft.

Lately I've been using (to flower), a 600W HPS and 200W of 6000K CFL's, just for 2 bushy plants, and I don't consider it overkill.

Good luck

I wold not go by lumens. I would go by watts. Also, topfuel, I don't care if you have Jesus himself saying that as proof. It can't happen. Just because companies say that, to get you to buy their product. Does not mean it's correct

It is a math formula...

8x8= 64 square feet x 3000 (for veg) = 192,000 lumens for veg. Not sure what the lumens are on a 1000 watt bulb.

I veg in a 3x3 = 9 square feet x 3000 (for veg) = 27,000 lumens. I use a 400 watt MH with 35k lumens for veg.

My question still stands. I'll ask you the same, how long do you veg under the 400 althor?

Also, when I was taught to grow pot 10 years ago I was told that it's based off watts. Comparing to the sun. I would never use a 1K I would use two 600s and put my 10 plants under each. No you don't get as much "lumens" but you get enough foot print for all the plants
