I need to know so i can prevent this isn the future

ow yeah, dont mind the lower burned leafs, i gave them nuts in the beginning :-D my bad!

oh and the lights need to be closer, its not lack of wind that makes the stems stretch at that age.

the light is about 40 cm away, its a 150watt light, i have a 400watt also, can you give me some advice as to when to switch over to 400watt? will it make the plants grow faster?

the general rule of the thumb is put your hand under the light and lower it, when you get to a point of where its not hot under the lights, thats the perfect distance. to be honest tho, 30cm is about right, and defo switch to 400w. You didnt say what kind of light tho? hps,mh,cfl? flur?

If u use a 400W HPS or Metal Halide, you'll burn the plants with a distance of 30cm. Need to almost triple the distance. They're too young for intense heat like that. Also, a rotating fan on low speed will strengthen the stems, make 'em thick and hearty.

Is that right? As we speak I have 6 day old seedlings 8" under my 400 hps with no problems at all. More bad info on RIU. Thanks for contributing to the misinfo pool.

well it all depends on heat and hw you can manage it, I think cfl are great for veg as they have low heat and more then enough light to do veg stage, so I's recommend going out and and picking yourself up a bunch of CFL's from the hardware store and getting em nice and close to stop that strech and an oscolating fan to get the stems stronger. Now I dunno n about my other idea but I was thinking could you try to plant em deeper ie.. loosin the dirt and put them in deeper to have less stem abouve ground?

So this dude has 2 400 watt lights and you reccommend buying CFLs? Go away dude.

Don't throw out the 'retards'. They can pick up awfully well later and put all into buds. They sometimes have the best result at the end of the day

OK BigV...leave the 400W light 8" away, don't control the heat and report back in 7-10 days with what you have.

i agree a little with lordj on the heat matter, it got to 35°C wich is way to high, i had to put the lamp at around 50 cm, and let the fan blow fresh air in :)
