What exactly are conservatives conserving?

i saw it on a bumper sticker today and thought about it for 600 miles, couldn't come up with one good thing they are trying to conserve.

did the conservatives manage to successfully conserve slavery?

nowadays, they're not doing that great of a job at conserving marriage inequality, even though they're trying their best.

We are trying to conserve freedom. Freedom to not be told what to do and the freedom to keep our money and property.

Mmmmmm, interesting, I am not sure if I would be considered conservative, still trying to figure out exactly what Americans consider conservative or liberal. But I am starting to see... slowly but surely so have a little patience I will get there. lol ;)

"the freedom to keep our property" is probably a reference to title II of civil rights.

conservatives hate that blacks and jews have the freedom to sit at the same lunch counter now, they view it as their property being stolen from them.

just ask any of the rawn pawl fanboys.
