What have I gotten myself into?

So I ended up procuring some seeds from a buddy of mine from Canada.. just for the hell of it. He has an operation up there and gave them to me for whatever reason. I grow a hell of a veggie garden every year and after thinking about it I decided to germinate the "freebie" seeds as well.... again, just for the hell of it. I soaked them in a thermos of warm water overnight, and when I got home from work the next evening opened the canister and every single seed opened and sprouted. What the hell, right? I'm not really a smoker any more due to my employment (maybe 2-3 times a year I partake) so I don't know why I did it. I planted the seeds in cups like I do my okra, beans, and cukes to start and three days later I'm looking at a few plants. A week later I'm seeing a very healthy little plant in every cup. I honestly had no desire to be a grower until I saw these plants! Unfortunately, I cannot do an indoor grow and deer, rabbits, and curious neighbors make me cringe about outdoor grows. I think that according to Murphy's Law if I was WANTING to grow these seeds never would've sprouted, lol... instead I got 100% germination and growth. Figures..

I have seriuosly enjoyed reading up on the threads here and thank every body for their contribution! I don't know what I'm going to do yet but I'm still reading up on my options.

Yo man. Welcome! I just came here not too long ago myself. I gotta say that I approve your name and avatar. I'm a Fender man myself. My baby is my Geddy Lee.

damn i wish i was so unfortunate as you to get 100% germination for try. haha but idk what to tell you mate. if you dont smoke and you dont deal which you should do anyways, then there really is no point in risking your neck for those plants. maybe find some buddies who grows and have them take them off your hands, or give them back to the guy who gave you the seeds

Plant them in the ground some place unknown to other people and see how they turn out bud.

Thanks guys! I'm leaning towards keeping them long enough to determine sex, culling, and putting them in the ground on somebody else's property, lol.. Thx Edberg!

Well... I put them in the ground and just walked away. It took several evenings to get them all in the ground because I have them all spread out over a large area in rather thick brush, looking for patches of sunlight that made it through the canopy and planting them. The soil looked good in most of the cases but I didn't check any ph or whatever. We have pretty good soil here in the middle Piedmont region of the south. I went back today just to see what had happened to them and out of 24 plants left alone to fend for themselves in the woods, 17 of them are alive and well with a couple more barely clinging to green. About half of them don't appear to be stunted and are great looking. Some have curled leaves or are stunted and need help. Here are some pics...

If I'm reading around the forums correctly, I should be able to tell the sex on these plants right about now in my location. I dunno.... maybe another week or so.

I'm curious to see what the yield on those will be, considering your not giving them a whole lot of attention

Yeah, me too.. I've visited them four times now and each time that I've gone I've carried a 5 gallon bucket of water in each hand, and one of those times I had a quart freezer bag of 10-10-10 in my back pocket. I doubt that I'll end up with much but hey..... they say that you mostly get out what you put in. Anything would be amusing!

still to early for sexing unless they are in a seriously thick area, mind the summer solstice was just a couple weeks ago. you will probably see sex in a month or less anyway. im also down south. i mostly deal indoors cuz outdoor around here is well, kinda hot. anyway good luck. i hope your babies flourish

Its a weed so if they are still doing ok after the shock you may be in luck. I hope the area can handle some sun as they are sun plants. And they will get 4-6 ft. if grow well and are sativa strains. Mostly now if they get some regular water with some drying out you may be in luck. Don't panic on the males until they really show. When balls show it still takes a while for pollen to take. Hope they are hiden as well? Good luck keep posting.. Suggest some nuts when they are about 4/5 weeks old every other week. When they start showing is when you need to be careful to not let people follow you to watering.

I went and visited the plants today. Most that lived are males, fwiw, and those were pulled up and discarded. I topped them on my previous visit and it's really amazing how they basically became two plants and seemed to get much thicker. Really dark, rich green plants and dank smell, it's really a shame to pull up such a beautiful plant, lol. Thanks for the advice guys!

Okay, so all but one of the plants is flowering. They are really loving all of this sunshine that we've been getting here lately! I'm curious if there is anything that I can be doing during the flowering stage to help the girls out. Any advice? Also, keeping in mind that this is a "wild" grow for the most part..... I have noticed that there is a bug that enjoyes eating the leaves on my plants. Is there a problem using standard garden spray-on pesticides such as "Sevin" spray or what would you recommend?

if you plan on smoking it,I would be careful about any pestisides on the plants
a fert high in P and K will help them along, think tomato plants or rose bloom & consider organic- it will make them taste better.

I agree! I did use something during vegetation..... a one time thing..... but since then have not needed to for various reasons. I did, however, use Liquid Fence on the leaves because of a deer problem. It went on on the leaves only, two applications about a week apart, and the deer have abandoned the plants for something tastier elsewhere. Talk about some nasty stuff! WHEW! Stanky...... Thanks!
