I just did a little bit of math for my estimate on what marijuana is worth to our economy. I'm estimating the number of daily users at 3.1 million according to http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/2k4/dailyMJ/dailyMJ.htm. I'm gonna go on the low side and estimate everyone at a gram per day. I'm setting the general price per pound at $1000 which I feel is a fair estimate if you average out bricks weed and the best buds you can get. This doesn't include resale value so I'm sure my estimate is way on the low side but it is still amazing.
3,100,000 daily users (circa 2004)
X 365 days
= 1,131,500,000 grams per year
1,131,500,000
/ 453.5
= 2,495,038.5 lbs.
2,495,038 lbs.
X $1000
=$24,950,385,000
Marijuana in the U.S is wort at least TWENTY-FIVE BILLION DOLLARS a year at the producer level. LOL and people a still terrified about their 3 plants under cfl's. This is also one of the most conservative estimates I think you could ever find.
