What kind of camera do I need for those up close photos?

I'm real sick of trying to focus my stupid little magnifying glass on my nugs to find out if they are finished. I would like to buy a camera that can just take those real zoomed in shots where I can see if my trichomes are cloudy or not by looking at the pictures.

so what type of camera do I need to be able to do that?

get an SLR with a macro lens, if you go for a base model slr with a macro lens you can drop about 1100/1200 for a Nikon or Canon

yah, i have been looking at getting myself a nice dslr camera, but i haven't gotten myself to drop the $1400 or so on the one i really like yet.. i'm still debating it..
i was either going to get a nice new bong, or a nice camera, i think i'm leaning more towards the camera, just not sure yet.. :D

They don't make my camera anymore but a few years ago I decided I needed to try to capture in photo the amazing hikes and scenery I live around. The Nikon D40 ($450) it was the only 6mp SLR on the market, but of course for what I paid then you can get a 10mp with more bells and whistles. I've been looking at getting a macro lens for a while now, I've also been tossing around the idea of throwing mine up for sale on CL for like $300 and getting a new D3000, I have a 200mm zoom lens and the standard lens for it.

I got my (good entry level) Pentax SLR, tele and macro lenses for under $800.
Shop around, if you have a "Henry's" in your neighbourhood, check them out.

Ok thanks for all the great replies this was helpful... so it seems I need to buy a camera and buy a seperate MACRO lens to go with it if I want to be able to take the zoom in pictures.

now if i wanted to spend around $200 does anyone have a specific brand or type of camera that they would reccomend going with?

lol, it is jack nicholson from the shining..

well, actually, it all comes from this skateboard co who used a skull for one of their boards for years.. they just invited a bunch of artists to do their take on their ripper logo, and the jack nicolson was one that someone came up with that i loved... they also have a darth vador one that is pretty cool and the dude from threes co, but i hate that show...

Not what your looking for but its worth noting the samsung galaxy s3 phone has a macro on the camera...obv its not as powerful as most lenses, cameras etc but it is very, very impressive for a camera on a phone
