what kind of led YIELDS are you guys hitting?

Hey guys looking to build a led system so what im wondering

Is what kind of yeilds do you typically get ,in what size space, and what wattage of lights.

Pics would be nice

Thanks all

i've been doing a bit of research lately. seems like about 600-650 watts of LED (quality LED) is equivalent to 1000w of HPS for about a 4.5 x 4.5 footprint. LED is more efficient at putting out photons, and you lose less to heat (because you're running less wattage) and also you are directing the light much more efficiently than with an HPS, because HPS emits photons in all 360 degrees, 1/2 of which need to reflect to make it down towards the plants and lose energy (as heat) with each reflection.

i'm going to replace my 600 watt HPS hoods with LED this summer (hopefully) and replacing them with 500ish watts of LED, and i'm expecting an increase in yield for less power in the long run... seems like a good deal to me!

the cool thing about custom builds with LEDs is that you can design them to your space if you have an odd space to fill. By spreading the power over multiple COBs or boards, you can spread the coverage of your footprint with the light (custom placement) and have a more even distribution of light and less hot spots (like with HPS).

yields will depend on strain, but generally are at par with with 1000w HPS at the 650ish watt range, crush in GPW yields, and i've noticed that they seem to add density to the nugs. I gave a friend of mine a plant in my soil as he wanted to try an organic water only mix. His density was higher than mine with LED. He has platinum LEDs (which aren't even the best on the market).

Here's a fun little wrap up harvest results from growmou5 that i found very helpful in seeing the side by side (there are others on youtube as well)

I'm still waiting to see what the quantum board I am running now can do in flower, but I pulled around 1 gpw in a scrogged 3x3 with my CLW Solar Storm 440 on several occasions and that's a blurple pulling about 350 watts from the wall in bloom mode. I only have pics from 1 run with that light.

I've literally just pulled a 1.5gpw yield which is my best to date. That was 25watts per square foot. I have heard of a couple of people getting close to 2gpw & a few others who claim to get over 2gpw. I'm obviousley doing something wrong!

Anywhere from 1.25 to 1.8 GPW. High end has always been hydro but I've got a nice harvest from coir/peat happening atm.

I think anyone with a 45-50% efficient lamp can do over 1.5 GPW with hydro or just under with soilless.

Regardless of media I always adjust water going in to 5.5-5.6 and let it rise. In hydro I adjust back down to 5.6 every day. I always use nutrient solution at 900-1000 ppm regardless of media. I've been using Recharge on this recent soilless grow. I also use mosquito bits, helps keep the gnats down to almost zero. I flush every other week.

(Recharge is a somewhat strong base. If you use it don't adjust PH until after adding the Recharge.)

The key IMO is to get the lamp down on the plants, as much as they can take without bleaching.

Efficacy of the lights has a big impact on g/W. I was using lights which produced 2umol/J while others run at 2.5umol/J. Obviously the g/w will be higher when you get 25% more light from the same amount of watts. That same 1.5g/W would become 1.9g/W without doing anything different.

Yeah, I have like a hand width between the tops and the strips... I accidentally broke the top off my one plant when I trained it. was working at a shit angle and kinda zigged when I should have zagged.
Anyhow, I put the top in a bag of coco, so let us hope it roots. The plant is actually getting way better light now, I was just cutting off the largest fan leaves at the top to keep things lit down below, before that. I would normally trim and supercrop very hard, but I kind of want to see how much this strain can yield. My buddies say it is only like 25g per plant. I think they can't grow weed.

Might root. I probably would have throne it in a cloner .

And I agree man, even looking at the seed banks. Their estimates for yield and thc seem rediculously low.

@ANC,

I was also thinking of lollipoping but I keep hearing about how the fan leaves are actually important and to just tuck or cut the top shade leaves.

What do you think would be best?

I have a round wire fence around the plant so I have quite a secondary ring of tops. the top leaves are almost 20cm long and steal a lot of light. I leave them for the first few days until they start losing their lustre then off the come to give the colas below, the light. I went from thirty to two plants a bit unexpectedly, so I don't get that effect where the side shoots want to tunnel up like you have.
I have a few clones going so I will fill the tray better next round. Just keeping things low key as I am transitioning to growing on my own. Don't want people getting jealous. Might even do two trays next time. I have the relief of being totally independent now with my grow. and I have about 700W worth of strips still unopened in the dining room. It is now a medical grow. I am using my hybrid hydro and organic method. Which involves very low ppm salt feeds and organic feed and fungi. Basically doing what I do outdoors indoors, without the soil... But I am busy cooking up some soil outdoors. It takes like 300 days for soil to go through a full cycle of incorporating things like the biochar etc full, especially outside in soil beds.

Yeach my side shoots all came up to the top because of the shade it's working nicely.

In thinking IL have to lollipop a bit of the bottom.. And let all the tops go nuts. I've got another 3ft of head room and these should be almost done stretch

Yes, go through the bottom with a fine comb, looking for shitty thin new branches and new baby tops that will turn into popcorn trim.
Shitty branches grow shitty weed. focus all the energy on colas at the tips, they are of higher quality and more potent.

Stay tuned haha, ;)

Blueberry day 12 flower. Stretch must be almost done. When would you trim them up? I'm thinking next week.

Then IL throw up the trellis net
