I want to use my tap water to water my plants but its WAY to hard. I decided to go buy some distilled or spring water and PH adjust it. However my friend told me that all the store bought water is reverse osmosis and thats bad for the plants. I disagree. Any thoughts?

ro is the best water for plants! softened water is bad cause it uses salts. i live in an area that has 1000ppm of shit in the tap water and a ph of 7.5. i used to go buy big gugs of water but that can get expensive so i bought a ro system for my plants. spoiled ass ladies get better water than i do but they are way happier.

r u hydro or dirt?

if your growing dirt tap should b fine. that comes straight from the boys in humbolt tap up there is bout 7ph but there spoiled with clean spring water. hypothetically speaking the dirt will filter the hard water some b4 it gets to the roots im gonna try some tests of my own to see what happends

you could also go to like kmart(its where i got mine in the past) and they have these replacement tanks for like office water coolers pretty cheap, another option is getting a pur water filter, which in the end is cheaper.

Just fill containers with no cap on for a few days & everything will be cool. Some people buy into all the high end advertising & get ripped. Hell i have a well & i will sell you water for 9.99 gallon + 4.99 shipping. LOL

My water is also very hard. I used it anyway for my first couple of grows - caused me no end of problems, don't give in to the temptation! lol I use a little if I'm short now and then - other than that, I buy them purified water.

you should buy a pur water filter or something bro(sis? i cant remember if your male or female. lol.) mine cost like 35 at the store and i got a 5 dollar rebate in the mail too so it was 30 in the end. i think it was worth every penny(and i also like it cuz my tap water tastes like shit but through the filter it tastes fine). its really worth looking into imo.

Girl!:bigjoint:lol I use one for the water line on my fridge, but the water is just so hard anything else has to be replaced every two to three weeks - cheaper to actually buy them water! It's bad enough that I had to bypass the filter for my softener - which is supposed to last for three months, but the water is so hard, within three weeks it would start cutting down the water pressure in the house because of clogging!

well I guess the concensus is use a filter on your tap and that the reverse osmosis store bought water is good for plants. thanks to everyone for ya'lls input.

I've used distilled and spring water all bought from the store. You can get it by the case pretty cheap at wal mart. I did some figures and buying a RO system is way more expensive than just buying the gallon jugs. It would take me years to show any realistic advantage in buying an RO system compared to buying cases. This is all based only on my grows. I dont grow a whole lot at any one time and just use my product for medical and personal reasons.

Just tap water from your sink, and a ph up/down and youll be fine...Been doing this for a year now...no problems....

i agree with most of these people just use tap water, but let it set out for a day or two with the cap of
to evaporate any bad shit. And i set buckets outside to collect rain water, which in my opin. is better.
cause the ph is pretty close to what you want anyway.

Central Texas here - my PH out of the tap is between 9 and 10. Once nutes are added that goes down significantly, and whatever else is needed is taken care of by 'PH Down'. I only use tap water when I run out of rainwater (not a problem this time of year). All my plants love the rainwater...highly recommend.
