what lights should i buy?

For my first grow i bought the cheapest light i could find (it was £15 off ebay a 150 watts hps), but after about 2 months it has broken:evil::evil: anyway i always felt a bit sketched out about using it as it got insanely hot, so am looking to make more of an investment this time. What do you guys recommend? i want something around 150 watts, that doesn't get really hot, is reliable and relatively cheap.
cheers R

You're taking the time and money to grow cannabis.

You want good results?

Get good equipment.

I'd suggest buying a cool tube and a RVK fan if you're worried about heat.

With a cool tube you could then bump your grow up to 400 or even 600 watts comfortably.

i see what you mean, but i'm not growing on a large scale and making a commitment like that kind of money seems a lot right now. would rather build up to something like that but stay low key for now, bearing in mind ihaven't even finished my first grow

My 150 watt HPS puts out hardly any heat so I would stick with that, and it provides pretty good results for what it is. Just buy from a reputable dealer.

CFL's are always an option for minimal heat and low-scale ops. They can actually get a little pricey though, after a certain point you might as well go HID and shell out for ventilation. Check out my grow in my sig. 1000bulbs is reliable and has great customer service, for cfls. HTGsupply has some good deals on HPS/MH. PEACE

CFLs put out more heat than a comparable wattage HPS. HPS is the only way to go and the minimum size i would recommend is 400 watts.

Hey I am looking at getting an hps too and have this question...
Hello, thanks in advance for the help!

I am going to invest in a 600watt HPS for my closet grow and the reflector that I am looking at looks like this one http://infiniteseason.com/store/images/coolsun8.jpg

My question is, will I need to hook this bad boy up to ducting and get an inline fan? (this is the ultimate plan and to have it hooked up to a scrubber on one end.) But do I need it right away?

Will I be able to run it without major heat issues with just a fan blowing towards it in the closet?
Sorry if this is a dumb question...please correct me

Yes you will need the fan right away, you will also need to vent out someplace where the heat will not get into the closet, the attic works well. Its not going to cool down with just a fan blowing on it. You don't want o burn your bulb up, the 600 watt bulbs are more expensive than 1000 watt bulbs. you can wait until about 3 weeks into flowering before your gonna need that Carbon Scrubber, some MJ varieties may be stinkier so that may vary.
