What makes a strain "medical"?

Been smoking about 22 years and grew for about 3 1/2. Still smokin and getting back into growing.

When I used to grow I started by just planting seeds that I saved from good dope. Eventually bred my own seeds from a good strain and grew that until I stopped growing.

Anyway, this time I got some seeds from a seedbank [Northern Lights and AK48]. When looking through the various strains before I ordered, some are described as "medical grade" or a strain might have a "medical high". What the hell does that mean?

My quess is that a medical grade strain has more Indica properties and produces more of a stone than a soaring type sativa high.

Somebody fill me in here.

Often those terms are used as a marketing ploy by seed companies to make the strain seem to be of very high quality. Both sativas and indicas can have medicinal properties, and just because the seed company is calling it "medical" doesn't always mean it is high quality or medical. Many people have found that certain strains do seem to work better for certain ailments, however. Generally the indicas like Bubba Kush seem to work better for pain relief, so they are often what some people think of when they use the term "medical." There are some lists posted online that have been compiled by med patients (I cant remember where or find the link right now) but if you do a Google search I bet something will pop up.

Exactly! marketing, nothing more!

All MJ has medical properties and thus should be considered medical grade.

Case in point: My stepdad once had a really bad case of shingles....in his eye. The worst kind- we're talking kickass, knife-in-the-eye pain here,

And he had been writhing in pain for about a week. It seemed to get worse by the day, until I pulled him out into the garage. This night he was feeling particularly bad, and none of his pills seemed to be doing enough.

Anyhow, I gave him a bag of mids to try out, because he couldn't handle my "medical grade" stuff. An inexperienced smoker.

SO he would only took a few rips here and there, every few hours and report results.

You know what? He said it worked better that the percocets, lyrica, oxycodone, ALL THOSE pills.

He managed his pain well, and pulled through like a champ. Took eight weeks for the virus to run its course, and he stopped talking about suicide. Yeah. That bad.

That was the first time I really felt as though I had a powerful medicine on hand. AND SHWAG NO LESS lol

:joint:

Definitely +1 on the marketing, man.

I believe it's marketing as well. I'll soon find out since I have bagseed going up against some Blueberry Kush. Doing everything identical and going to see what happens. Whatever strain you find that performs as you need it to for your condition, I consider it medical. If it's Mexi brick but does YOU right, then that's medical for you. We'll see how my little experiment turns out. I have 4 of each waiting to pop right now!
