What Outdoor Strain?

A few days ago, I decided that I will start growing Marijuana. Unfortunately I cannot grow indoors, as we're currently reliant on solar power to run our house. I have decided to find a suitable spot in the nearby bush surrounding our property, and grow there.

This will be my first grow, and I'll be relying on my dad to help me out (grower for 30+ years). My original plants will most likely be from seeds I get from him, but he does not have much in the way of outdoor strains, as he grows primarily hydro at other locations.

This is where I need advice from you guys - the experts. I live in Queensland, Australia, so you should automatically get a rough idea of the temperature around here.


  • Moderate-High heat (22-30c)
  • Moderate-High humidity

Ideally, I would like to grow 2 strains of plants, and the attributes would be something like this:

Strain 1: For my personal use, and also for sharing with close family and friends. Possibly for selling occasionally.


  • High THC content (20% or more?), preferably rivaling strains like White Widdow (I have read allot of good things about that strain)
  • Preferably Sativa based, as I MUCH prefer a "buzz" and a fun time, filled with laughter, than being dead on the couch
  • Average-High yield (the higher the better obviously)
I want this stuff to be the "best" around, so THC content is very important to me on this one. Although, I know that THC content is also affected by the conditions in which the plants were grown.

Strain 2: This will be my "moneymaker". I plan to sell this regularly, and possibly smoke it myself.


  • Preferably a high THC content, but as long as it can rival (hopefully be stronger) the "average" hydro available, it should be fine to sell without being considered "shit"
  • Sativa would be preferable, but I'm not sure if it would matter all that much. Maybe you guys can give me some advice on what people generally like, as I'm not an experienced smoker.
  • High-"Fucking Insane" yield. I'm not sure how much that is, but my grandma said often she's heard of people getting multiple pounds from a single plant
I understand that to you experienced growers, allot of that may sound unreasonable or stupid. Please bare with me, as I'm doing my best to learn all that I can about this wonderful industry.

sounds like youre thinkin too much, considering how perfect your situation already sounds, what w ur dad growing and you living in australia and all.
just get some seeds, a bag of good dirt, and a bucket for carrying water.
i wouldnt worry about picking a strain your first try

Yes, I know, but my dad grows primarily hydro. His outdoor stuff is average, maybe a bit better. He himself asked me to get some good seeds, and offered to give me the money to buy them. I was thinking that "Traveling Thai" would be good. The yield does not seem that good, but being 100% Sativa and supposedly 22% THC sounds like it would be a rewarding smoke.

Anyway, I'm open to any suggestions. But also, please make it clear if it's Strain 1# or Strain 2# you are suggesting, because I'm not an expert at this yet :).

when i was 14 i wanted to become escobar!!! but i had to make my way up!! i knew i needed money or i wouldnt have power so i decided to go on a mythical encounter!! i decided i was smarter than the world all together so i decided to start in the weed baron business!! i went to my dealer and asked him for seeds he got out a baggy with swag and cleaned out all the weed kept it for himself and i paid for the seeds i got!! i had 200 seeds and looked for a field couldnt find one as i couldnt go too far away from my house as i was 14 so i decided to plant them in my back yard!! i watered the grass and sprinkled my 200 seeds on top after 3 weeks 4 of them had sprouted so i gave them water every day to make them big 3 of them died in the first week the fourth was eaten by the cat!! had to go back to my dealer to buy seeds he pulled out the baggy i paid for it he kept the weed and i got the precious seeds!! read about a paper towel technique so went to the store to buy a paper towel shit those peeps must have been lying i only see cloth towels!! anyways remembered school experiment with cotton and water so placed 400 seeds in a party cup on a wet cotton!! after three days 10 had sprouted placed them in plastic cups with soil from back yard and watered!! grass was still growing in soil so took weed killer from moms gardening supplies to kill the weeds after ten days all weeds were dead including mj how could this be?? so i went to my dealer to buy more seeds this time i bought 1000 seeds no more fuckups and im behind on conquering the world schedule!! so decided i wouldnt wait on the environment and i would grow indoors!! i had a small truck toy i had from when i was young so i decided to convert it into a patio!! i had a superman cape from halloween which i made into a tent!! i couldnt have my parents find out so i built it under my bed!!! hehe no way theyl find my garden there!!!! i didnt have much height to grow so i had to do something drastic!! i went on a forum and read about his aero gardener wow i said i can grow in air!!!!!!!!!!!! so i planted my seeds in the air ontop of my carpet and under my bed watered and waited!! i saw roots on 400 out of the 1000 seeds i had so i guessed things were going well!! as i wanted my weed to be the most potent i started reading on feeding schedules!! no money since pocket money is 10$ a week and my milk cost 2$ a day :-( so had to improvise i read about piss and cow castings since i didnt own cows hehe im only 14 i decided to use my own castings the site said to place in soil for a year but i dint have the time so i pissed on my plants and shit on them for their nutes!! my room started smelling like a turkish bathroom but thats the price u pay!! two days later all seedlings were dead and my mom found my poop under the bed i was grounded for two months so cant go buy more seeds il update when i can go outside again ;-)!!!! im high and bored please excuse my rambling!! my 2 cents= dont start off by trying to be a weed baron!! if you dont have experience in dealing DONT DEAL!!!! rule 1 of growing is tell NO ONE you have already gone wrong on this!!!! dont depend on others!!!! dodnt spend money ur not sure ur gonna get back!! dont risk getting busted and ruining your life!!! dont know if i mentioned but dont try to become a weed baron!! then if you wanna grow grow some for yourself and after a couple of grows start thinking about going commercial if you dont have experience you will either get busted or you will get robbed start slowly or fall down fast!!

hmm.....thats funny,i thought he was asking for advice,not to be patronised by someone with so little to do with their time they had to make up a stupid long story to get a point across when they could have left out all that other crap and just wrote the last 4 lines.but hey maybe thats just me (although i do agree hes prolly goin for too much too quickly).

I didn't read all of his bullshit. He could have had the curtsy to at least use punctuation and correct spelling.

I think I'm going to grow "Critical Mass", which is supposedly an improved version of "Big Bud".

I'll use them as my money makers, and then get a few higher quality strains, for personal use.

sorry for the punctuation and the bad spelling i tried my best to give a picture of how big ideas and little knowledge lead to constant failure whilst making a laugh!!! it doesnt matter how smart you are lack of knowledge cannot be overcome with simple thought!! i know many people who started off to be weed barons and didnt make it far shit man when i was young and fearless i tried and failed too at least i was lucky not to ruin my life like friends did!! take one step at a time theres 24 letters between A and Z you cant just jump from one to another!! many more things than what youve thought of can go wrong!! its the essence of any business the rewards that you are seeking come from the acceptance of risk without risk there is no profit this is the basis of all businesses!! now is the risk you are taking worth the reward and vice versa?? you are taking a huge risk!! your starting from scrap with no know how and your return is UNKNOWN!! so my advice is grow a couple for personal use see how things go fuck up on your time and account dont get involved in games where u will have responsibilities which you are not sure you can fulfill!! and if you get caught u will not see the inside of a cell but if you start big and something goes wrong you will be facing heavy charges so start off slowly see how things go start meeting ur connections and building relationships when you have it all set out then go commercial!!! and always but always count the relativity of risk compared to return!! i a work in a top company can make out of my work what i would never make of weed so for me the risk isnt worth the return because if i get caught i lose it all!! but i smoke so the risk of going to the dealer and hanging out with these people increase my risk of getting busted so i grow my own!!! its all about risk and return!! if you owe 200,000 to the mafia then u got no choice if they are about to take your house you have no choice but if you live decently why risk losing even this for something that has no sure return!! dont forget that when u get busted they take all your money away so after going to prison you will be left with nothing!! just my two cents for a fellow human seeking to make his stand!! im not saying these to discourage you im saying these things to help you not fuck up!! iv been 12 years in the game but u never get to know it all so start learning and when you need no advice from anyone then you will be able to move ahead with your project otherwise you will never succeed!! a thin line separates failure from victory but their results lay oppositely away!!

Any of the greenhouse srains are good outdoor producers arjons ultra haze#1 would be a great outdoor strain also white widow is another good one.i did a batch of arjons ultra haze and it was 6 ft at 5 week into flowering it goes from 12/15 wks in flower training i needed barbra woodhouse.

First of all, I'm not sure what your exact definition of a "weed baron" is, so it would be great if you explained that.

I too know people who have been busted, in fact, most of them have been busted multiple times. I have put allot of thought into this, and I think I have covered the large majority of issues.


  • I'm going to be growing in a private location in the bush - which (hopefully), only myself and my immediate family will know about
  • I have a few close friends who can, and will sell for me. They of course want a percentage of the profit, for their own efforts and risks
  • Allot of their selling will be done up to an hour away from where we live, which I believe will dramatically increase the safety of myself and my friends
  • I don't plan on having the harvested Marijuana on my property often, if ever, and I will be storing it in yet another hidden location (possibly buried somewhere)

To my knowledge, that covers the basic safety measures, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, you're partially right about starting from scrap. I'm not an idiot though, and I have spent HUGE amounts of time researching to reduce the chances of something going wrong.

I will, however, have personal help from someone who has been growing and selling for close to 35 years now, so my chances of harvesting nothing are slim to none.

Profit is almost guaranteed, but on the slim chance a meteor/ice storm/tsunami ruins my crop, it should not matter - maybe a few $100 of seeds down the drain, and some wasted time. I'm not getting involved in the mafia or anything of the sort.

But, I do appreciate your concern for me. I understand I don't even know close to everything, but I'm educating myself in the necessary ways first.

What I mean by that is, I've spent most of my time learning about different strains, their backgrounds, growing conditions and the like, because I have plenty of time to learn the rest while the plants are growing :).

Strain 2 you said "A big yielder but is not considered "shit" sativa if possible" If your looking for a big yield but with still some potentency then i'd definitely try Northern Lights x Big Bud. I was going to grow that as my first but went with WW instead. Though i'd seriously give it a try NL is in the top for Marijuana strains (atlest in my book). You can get 10 seeds at Nirvana-seedshop (their link is under "seeds" at this website). Nirvana is probably the 2nd cheapest legit website for marijuana seeds with good stealth delivery and pretty much always a 100% germination rate.
