In my early days I would force myself to wait at least a week before chop if I thought ready. Only went wrong once that was when I knew I knew its ready. My pic still has a couple weeks to go thought might help for reference.

The levels are different because the trichs are used to protect the plant from the light and other things. The light degrades the thc during the day and the plant rebuilds it at night.

not thc, pr-pfr(phytochromes) are the chemical that gets effected by light during flowering. THC is destroyed by light after harvest during drying. Thats the only time I know that light breaks down thc. Correct me if I am wrong.
there appears to be some confusion about what trichs and pistils are, while you are waiting for the trichs to turn amber, the pistils often do so people confuse these, the pistil is the fuzzy hair that has trichs on it.
