I just germinated 2 seeds in the damp paper towel method. I placed in my soil under lights. I was wanting know if temps matter yet or not till they sprout above the soil? In my small grow box the temp right now is 79.
what should the temp be when starting seeds?

That'll work but I think they prefer low 80. Make sure they get plenty of humidity.

yea humidity is importent here, if possible keep it above 50% (60-80% is actually to prefer here)
temps is also important but as long its around 75-80F you good ..
more important is the soil temps (why some Ppl. use heating mats in there domes) as you looking for root grow at this stages, if you can keep Temps higher in the soil the above you will get a fast root grow going and get your plants ready for Veg fast..
but agin this is not so important, you can easily get a good result with a RH on Etc. 40% and normal room temps with out a dome or heating mats, just not so fast ..

Welp, I'm pretty sure my seeds are fucked, didn't notice it was too cold so I'm going to wait it out, see if they can still grow..if they don't I guess I'll try and start over.

I just planted my seeds in soil tonight. I had them under a light. The temp ws 79 for the high. RH was about 60. Do I need to keep the light on them all the time now? or wait till the sprout 1st?

I germinate in rockwool. When the ambient temperature is low- to mid-80s, the seeds usually sprout in about 2.5 days and initial growth is fast. When the ambient temperature is 10 degrees cooler (low- to mid-70s) it takes 4-5 days and initial growth is slower.

I just planted my first seeds on New Years Day (makes keeping track of aging pretty easy). Tent grow, temperature around 78, seeds straight into the soil and watered. They sprouted overnight last night, so that was 4 days. I ran the lights anyway because I have been home 2 days and away 2 days so I didn't want them to not have light if they popped out while I was away. I'm going to increase the temperature to speed up the initial growth.
How do you guys keep the humidity up? Do they take more water in the beginning?

I do paper towel method, in dvd case, then dvd case in my cloning tray where that sits on a heat mat.
