What size pot for seedling??

Hey I have a 3 week old seedling. Not an auto flower. I have it in a pint sized pot but I feel like it's too small. I wanted to repot it to a 2 gallon pot util it's ready for its move to a 5 Gallo bucket. Would moving it now stress it out or should I be fine to swap it to the 2 gallon?
- Growing it's 3rd set of leaves now.
- 5 1/2 inches tall

I got like 5 in one cup, I bet it's rooted but I still give them extra days, when I move them I just cut with a knife each rootball and transplant, even if they are a lil shocked they bounce back within a day.
I don't like wasting dirt and space, sometimes I even put 40-50 seeds in 1 cup then move them when they are more younger and you can pull them individually with ease.

Established rootball is what your after before transplanting.

Hell , I avoid all that small pot to bigger shit......that transplanting. I'll get booed to hell , but I place my germinated seed directly into my 7 gallon container. It works for me , things go fine and I avoid all that pain-in-the-ass shit.

I was wondering if I could just go straight to a 5 gallon. I'm happy to see someone doing this method. I think ill go right into the bucket soon.

It can lead to trouble if you put a small plant in a big pot, over watering mainly, but can also be ok if you know what your doing, good luck :)

I just touched on this on another thread. Up-potting is your friend. Up-pot when your plant is drying out its container fast. Try not to up-pot into too large a container like @DanKiller said. Solo cups are cheap, nursery pots are cheap. I go solo cup > 1/2 gal nursery pot > 1 gal fabric pot. Sometimes if a mom's been around a while she'll go into a 3 or 5, but the point is it's never a huge jump up in pot size. Plants shouldn't skip a beat from up-potting. Just the opposite. You should notice a lot of new growth when you up-pot. Can't say I ever see what they call "transplant shock." To me, that's just a myth.

It's not a myth it's just root stress, people cut the roots and abuse them sometimes, so it happens.
Also people transplant into "diy" soil mixes that are too hot or just not what weed love.

If you just follow the book and not let you mind interfere too much you shouldn't have those symptoms anyway, those are great advices by @MtRainDog, no doubt @Starlink_24 if you take notice you will have a streamlined grow.

I normally wait until a plant fills my solo cup with roots, then move it to the final container, which also no bigger then 3-5g, if I go bigger I probably would have used a bigger cup in the beginning.
