if you have a windows disk i would try to reload windows. theres only two things that causes a computer to not turn on. one is bad hardware. the other is a virus or missing software. i would try to add the windows cd and see if it will boot up. if you can get it to boot up i would do a restore point from there. and run an antivirus. after that if it removed any viruses i would try to start it back up and more than likely it will

Would you mind being a little more specific?
When you say you try to turn it on and nothing, what exactly do you mean? Is there no power whatsoever going to it? As in no fans running etc?

You need to check the second power supply in another PC to make sure it is not also faulty.

Sounds like a dead asus, any of the capacitors have slightly blown up (like a baloon) apearance on top?

There are two fully blown open caps in that pic, its more common to just find bulging..

have you checked to make sure its not the outlet your plugging into...that could be why the psu didnt work on the other unit

Ok, try the following, remove everything from the motherboard except for the PSU and CPU, even the ram, see if it gets to the normal eror beeps.

how old is the mother board? what kind of processor do you have? i was thinking of building a computer and putting an asus in it.

Kind of hard to explain, but don't pull the motherboard. Inside you will find wires going from the switch to the motherboard, one should be labeled pwr. Unplug the power and hold down the power button for 10 seconds or so. Leave it unplugged. Disconnect the wires from the power panel make sure you remember what wires went where. Now plug in the power, take a screwdriver (small) and short the pwr lead to one next to it for a couple seconds, see if it comes on. What I would normally do first would be to remove the battery for a minute after removing power and holding the power button down, this resets the cmos usually, also most boards have a reset jumper that you can reset it with. This is common with HP and Dell and other name brand pc's, they all use the same shitty boards basically.

I had a similar problem once and it was a fan. When the mother board senses a fan is not working it won't boot up. Especially if you have one that plugs right into the motherboard. What you can do is if you have a spare fan lying around that works, plug that into your motherboard and see if it fires up.

Another friend of mine had a similar problem where his motherboard was frying the fan. He did what I just suggested and the PC fired up but the MB quickly fried it as well. In his case the MB was the culprit and was frying the fan. He got another MB and fixed the problem.

Anyway I hope this helps a little and good luck

Peace.
