What to start out in?

What size pots should i use to start, and at about what size do they need to be transplanted? i have a bunch of a pots that are about 5 inches in diameter and 4 1/2 inches deep, how far along would they get before transplanting is needed and into what size after that?

those pots will work to start in .. general rule of thumb.-when the plant is the same size or larger than the container its in, then you need to transplant.

after 2-3 weeks you shoul transplant
