What type of LED light should I use?

Ontario and with the fans, lights, .etc it should not be more than 50 a month at most. Keep in mind that you're running a 1000w light and mine is a fraction of that.
Yea for sure It will be less energy with the led.i was talking about the 600..leds suck.completely incomparable to hid..The only People that think they are awesome are people that transitioned from cfls to leds..unless you're willing to spend big cash for one that competes with hid lights..but even then it won't out do hid...u save energy but you pay for it up front in the cost of the light...I rather pay every month then a huge lump sum up front..good leds cost a lot. And still produce the same or less.. the cost to keep your setup running will be a hundred bucks a month at least..

it's not even gonna be 30 a month, it woulda been around 30 on my 600w but the LED I've ordered only takes around 280 watts
Chinese import epi-whatever LEDs need about 50-60w/sq ft. You can't replace a 600w HID with a 280w epi-whatever LED.

I want to be supportive. But, you're going to come back in 4-10 months and tell us we were right. You should put your money into acquiring a trade or degree, grow as a hobby to supply yourself. After a couple years you might find that you can increase the scale of your hobby and make a decent profit by selling it wholesale to someone who will do the risky individual deals.

What you're doing is like going to Vegas and putting it all on Red. If you were 21 I wouldn't be too concerned. We all have to learn the hard way. But, at your age this will be hard to recover from.

We have no reason to discourage you. You should listen.

I transitioned from HPS to led, not from CFL. I skipped all the purple nonsense and jumped in at vero and cxa, because I saw RESULTS.

600W DIY with Cxb is straight up better than 600W HPS in every way but startup cost. The idea that you'll produce less is bullshit. That's not what me and other users growing with cxa, cxb, and vero have been reporting/showing. There's no real tricks with spectrum, it's simply more white light per watt dissipated than HPS, and the results have been great.

The reason LED doesn't make sense for most people, besides not wanting a lump sum cost up front, is that there's too many variables for someone who doesn't know a lot about the hobby already. If you check the datasheet of a cxb2350 and look at the 3000k u2 bin at 500mA, it's ~155lm/W. With a LER of 315lm/W, that's a 49% efficient lamp. It's extremely easy to get ripped off (or to rip yourself off even)

So do I think a noob should go this route? probably not... but someone like sunshine should try it out before writing it off as something seasoned HPS growers would shy away from. The warm white light has grown almost exactly like HPS. No purple tinge in any of my tents, just more photons per watt.

If you buy a cheap purple unit, you will get the "LED" results you're thinking of (cfl like)

I really can't understand how you could suggest that people who are interested in CXB come from a CFL background. Don't knock it before you try it.

Cfl is garbage. cxb is unrivaled in efficiency.

I agree if you build it, it can be better...but if you're just buying one Imo it can best case senerio be equivalent. I've seen side by sides many of them that's what I was able to gather from them...mmy buddy's running a mars hydro1600 watt swichable... I'll tell you right now I won't ever buy one.. it's not worth the 6 bills Imo Ill stick with the hps...I'm not
handy enough to build a quality light.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's like watching someone who doesn't understand computers talk about how they just got the best deal on a computer... So much better than the piece of shit one I offered to build them! Maybe that analogy doesn't work as well in 2015.

I always wanted the solar storm 880 but it's to expensive. . I do stand by what I said thought I just may hAve used the wrong words...
what I'm saying is cheap leds can't compare to hid..And the people that say they do are people that transitioned from cfl...give a hid guy a cheap Chinese led and ask him if it's compareable..no way jose..leds are awesome just not the ones most people have..

Sorry, I've obviously been on edge recently. You have no idea how much flak I've been taking in the last few months trying to test these things! I've got pictures floating around of 193W of my 49% efficient cxb build in a 2'x4' with 3 foot tall plants, and people keep insisting to me my "purple" leds don't penetrate. or that it's just a trick. My goal this run is 300g, and judging by how things are going and my last run, I think I'm going to get it. Pics after stretch in a thread called "LED vs HPS" in indoor growing.

I just know there are people who want the results of this lamp, at the price of a mars, and against all advice, they go for the mars rather than just using HPS.... and as a result, people assume the cxb will be a more expensive version of the mars, but work the same.... and somehow be purple despite being yellow.

(post of pics where stretch just finished). Earlier in thread showing results of 240W vero 18 at 700mA. (sadly didn't measure that run)

My buddy's mars 1600 gets hot with both bloom and flower on.. it's not that much cooler then a properly set up air cooled hood..iit draws 720 watts at 6 amps that things not that efficient. ..fuck mars!

If I was 21 I would have gone back to school and done things right... I am not 21 and my life is kinda fucked. It's been a stagnant, redundant treadmill, a godamn dead end for years upon years. I'm too physically weak to get into manual labour and too mentally weak to go back to school. At this point I need this. I need to get my head above water then expand. I can spend thousands on LED's in a year or so when I have that kinda money to spend on LED. I would need to spend over 100$ to get a closed hood for the HPS which may or may not keep the room cool enough to not fry my plants. The light + ballast was 230$ that's 335ish which is just slightly less than I'm spending on this LED which should do the job for the space that I have. From what I've heard this light works just fine, it's lower end on the LED lights but should work fine for at least 6 months or so and give me enough to work with that I can upgrade the light or buy another at that point. It may be a slow start but quite frankly I don't want to go to another job interview for some shit job and have them ask me stupid fucking questions like "why do you want to work for us" to which I want nothing more than to reply with "Because I need money" but you just know that's not what they want to hear, they want to hear how good their bullshit minimum wage slave whipping crap job company is and how well I will fit in with their slave-force.

At the risk of sounding like a 70's hippy, fuck working for the man. Funny that you don't hear that so much these days despite how much worse "the man" has gotten over a 40 year span. I guess the man has gotten good at making contented lap-dogs that run around excitedly wagging their tails awaiting the moment they get to gorge down on the shit that the man shovels into their faces.

Sorry about that, I'm just getting sick of people telling me that I should just fall in line and get back to doing what society expects of me.

So you're saying that the highest watt light that mars has get's hot with all the lights on? Seriously? How hot though? I guarantee you that a 1600 HPS would burn a damn hole through your plants with the heat that'd put off(without some damn good cooling).

At the risk of sounding like I've been there and done that, there's nothing worse than "working for the man" than doing it while paying off a $3.5k credit card accruing 20% "default" interest.

If you have to work for the man, do it on your terms. You don't sound intellectually challenged. Go to school. If you continue with your gamble, I believe you have about a 1-in-12 chance of succeeding.

Good luck. I hope you're lucky. I'd rather see you be responsible.

you're missing the main point. You can't grow a pound with that light...even with the 600 you can't grow a lb in that space..why do you keep ignoring these facts.. u want a lb.. your best bet is using the 600.and growing in more space..

It was 84 degrees outside yesterday he said the room hit 85..today he switched to flower that's 200 extra watts.. it gets hot man..he's going to need to run the window ac all day to have a chance.it pulls 720 watts completely on..that's 1600 equivalent that doesn't mean shit to me I'll take the g watt All day everyday.

I've been there and done that as well. That's where my financial frustration started. I spend 4-5 years trying to pay off my credit cards. This grow should only put me about 4-600 in debt(thx to the extra income I'm collecting from unemployment/welfare). Trying to pay off cards while working for the man is like literally working for free. I would have done it a long time ago but no one wants to hire full time workers anymore and I refuse to fuck around with working multiple jobs and having both employers tear me a new one on a weekly basis because they can't schedule me for when they want to. I've been there and done that too. Just fuckin tired at this point. I need this to work for me.

In terms of ventilation and cooling, it doesn't matter what temperature the lamp is running at, but how many watts it dissipates. That's essentially how much power heat it's producing.

400W of HPS and 400W of T5HO will both ultimately put out about 400W of heat (conductive+radiant). Temperature in this case is misleading. It's good to keep the LED's cool, but that doesn't mean they dissipate less watts. 400W of LEDs will ultimately mean dealing with 400W of heat.

I am unsure what you mean by the "g watt".

I can't go with a larger space right now. The space that I have is what I have. I can use my full closet space(which I will likely do when I get that light) which is about 7X2 and that's not too bad, it's short of a 4X4 by about maybe 2 feet or so of usable space but still. Also the closet is tall, I could grow the plants 6-7 feet tall(if they would grow that tall). Also I am going to be picking up some CFL lights to put between the plants for added penetration. I am inexperienced but I am not going into this with my head up my ass. I know there's going to be costs but I just need to keep them manageable is all.

G watt is a thousand watt hid..tall plants don't mean more bud..people that get good yields train and utilize the space with many many even sized heads on an even canopy. With that led you will be lucky to hit a qp...quarter pound..

I guess we'll see when the grow is done. I'd rather go by results than sit around arguing about it.
