What's a Maxiswitch good for?

Or is it just a gadget for those who shit $$. This is my first grow. Will any normal switch do fine?

ive never seen one of them up close. but that looks like a good investment for uk residents. Hid lights require a heavy load to be switched on and off. those cheap timers you get from like home depot just dont hold up. that one looks like a pretty good switch.
another way is to use the home depot timer to control the coil of a lighting contactor which i would just make. and basically it would do the same thing as that one your asking about.
