Bit worried about the smell of the plant,

when will it start to smell?

How strong will the smell be?

What are cheap and effective ways to cover/get rid of the smell?

You won't get any strong smells 'til you start flowering in most cases. This might help Cheap Carbon Filters

It can start to smell very early in life and it really depends on the strain how soon or strong it will be. Carbon filters, ona, febreeze are some of the ways to mask the smell.

I did a closet grow. As soon as they flowers showed up. My ENTIRE ROOM smelled like potent shit. But it never left my room. It was weird.

Ya, I do closet grows in my room, and the hall leading to my room has a very small trace, but that's when I'm gone all day, and come home. For the most part I hardly notice it outside of my room.
