Whats the best way to germ.

I have always put my beans in wet paper towels for a few days to germ. I want the best success rate for them to germ. Is there another better way to do this like soaking in a cup of water first? Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks and peace!!

I put them in moist papertowels between to plates.. like this () seeds in middle, then put those under a nice warm light for incubation. I've never had anything but 100% success.

I throw the seeds in a shot glass with tap water(my tap water is good...yours may not be) and put it near the back of my fridge on top(it's warm back there)...once they sink I know the air pocket in the seed has sucked in the water it needs to germinate...then throw them in some moist(not damp, not dripping water) paper towels in a ziplock bag and put that in a dresser drawer. Check it daily for taproot sprouting...once the tap root is a little over an inch long and has a little bend in it I put it in a peat pellet about 1/4" below the surface with the root pointing down.

The reason I put the root down is it has already made its "bend" to go down before stick it in the peat puck. Unless the seed was a dud, I've had 100% germ rate of viable seeds. I've cracked open the ones that didn't germ and they didn't have a developed tap root inside the seed to work with :)

cool thanks guys! I just want to make sure i have the best chance since some good genetics can be a lil pricey.

Putting it in a small pot of dirt, rockwool cube or rapid rooter should work wonders. Don't use any type of heat mat.

my question is, do you just toss em in the shot glass? I mean, do they float automatically, until they have absorbed the water, or will they stay submerged if you fill the glass with water? sorry im high....:blsmoke:

*edit: never mind, i just tested this out. they will all float. no matter what. I even have some 10yr old seeds here, they float to.
the water is a full strength DG mix, I had a little left over, think im gonna let em go, see how this turns out....

** edit: HaHaHa, did I mention Im hihg? ok replaced the water on the 10yr old seed with tap.

The whole reason I asked is earlier I tossed 2 Hawaiian Snow in a shot glass of water.

2 days ago I tossed 2 shwagbagSeed in a shot glass of water (drop or two of superthrive in a 1l bottle for mix) for couple of hours, touched them and they sank (didnt know if I specifically was the cause), then tranfered to baggy with paper towel, 24 hrs later they had both cracked open. avg temp 65-75 ish.

usually it has taken 5-7 days for me to see progress, using paper towel on plate in warm area. iv just seen the shot glass mentioned here before and figured id try it. but those were with junk bagseed, i didnt want to fuck up the HS however...

"what is a rapid rooter? where are these purchased? hydro store?"

Rapid rooter can be found on amazon or ebay. 50 for about $15 (including shipping). They sell a tray, but you really don't need it.

It makes it easier for germination, just drop the seed in the hole and keep them moist.

Rapid rooters work real well for cloning too.

What works for me so far. Ive germinated with 100% success. 2 layers of wet paper towel on the bottom. place your seeds so that the bottoms are all facing down(gotta look really close at the seeds). then 2 layers paper towel on top. Place that inside a flat tupperware container and close the lid. Lean the tupperware container at a 45 degree angle in a warmish place and cover with something to sheild the light. check every 24 hours. when you have a taproot use tweezers and place the seeds 1/4 inch under medium. Don't go too deep or it just gives your trouble.
Works perfectly, so far germinating has been the easiest part of growing, now I just gotta learn how to clone damnit!

Ive used this method too with perfect results.
