What's worse - curing your bud when it's too damp, or too dry?

I chopped a plant the other day. My friend said to hang it upside down in the dark. He said to leave it one day per 10% RH.

My room is 50% so I figured to leave it 5 days before popping in curing jars with bodeva packs.

Does this sound right? What's worse? Putting it in when it's not quite dry, or over drying it?

Sounds about right, one day per 10%. Keep an eye on them, they may be ready sooner. Don't jar them if they're squishy still after 5 days, just keep an eye on them and make sure the humidity doesn't swing around too much while they're hanging.

How long it takes depends on how much leaf matter on the stem/how big the flowers are, and the drying environment. If humidity dips low in your drying space for whatever reason it could dry them faster than you expect which is not good, best case it tastes green and worst case it smells and tastes like hay.

Great, thanks man. I'm running a dehumidifier in the room set to 50. The problem is I work in a different area of the countries some days, so worried if I get to them a day or so late and they're too dry.

what's the room rh without the dehumidifier? personally i think the slower it dries (as long as the environment isn't damp) the better. If the room rh is naturally 60-65 it will just take a few extra days but you wont have to worry about it drying out too much then. Make sure you have good airflow and you should be golden..

and curing damp buds is probably equally crazy as too dry.. you want it to be dry but not too dry if that makes any sense lol

To dry is far worse than to wet going into cure. I start my cure well before stems are snapping in half. I like to start my cure wetter than most. Takes a lil more vigilance and work. The end product is well worth it though.

1- hang 3 to 5 days.
2- into doubled up paper grocery bags half full with tops folded over. Paper bags wick moisture out slowly and make it easy to burp and check the flowers.
3- into food grade bags inside of large totes. I will still have to burp a few times at this point.
4- At least 90 days of patience.
5-Enjoy.

Depends. Neither is good. Too dry and it's no good and too wet and you will get mold.

I like a slow dry. If it takes five to seven days that's fine. Then to jars with a meter and burp daily for a bit then weekly.

Over dried is a fucking wreck. I like a super slow dry as well. I literally have to baby sit the paper bags for the first week to avoid any issues.

I go with a 10 day dry w/ whole plant hanging. Then take off all the nugs clean them up and jar them.i use the stem test too. Wether it breaks or snaps. I would say trying to cure already dried out buds is worse. But then again overly wet buds if not maintained right will get ruined quickly too. So can I say both ? lol

I totally agree. I don't use meters or any gadgets. I do it all by feel. However I think I will try some meters out this year. My wife was at the dollar star recently buying some plastic Tupperware containers for our BBQ patio. She brought me home some giant food grade wide mouth containers with a rubber seal screw in lid. I think I'm guna go back and buy 20 bucks worth to play with. Did I mention I love containers ....lol

I set humidity in drying room to 68% for a couple days, then down to 65% for a couple days (always have air moving!) and jar when they seem stable at 65% and monitor curing process with a hydrometer in jar for best results!

I keep a big cardboard box with a 120mm fan pulling air through it. clipped onto it I keep my humidity gauge. Near the intake is a humidifier that gets turned up or down to keep it at around 60 to 62%. Learning to dry I have to say has been one of the more challenging parts for me cause you only get one shot at not ruining it!

Managed to get it perfect, took 8 days, RH was between 50-60%. One mistake I made was just chopping the entire plant and hanging each branch upside down without trimming off the leaves. I guess that helped it dry out slower, but was a real pain to trim after. The buds are now in jars curing with 62% boveda packs.

You done good. I leave the leaves on when the climate is dry and clip them off when it is humid. Some strains are just hard to trim. I just shit canned some Pink Kush because it was too hard to trim.

too dry is the worse by far...over dry and its harsh with little to no good flavor and there is no good way too add moister. a little too moist you can always open the jars or set it out to get the rh where u want it to be
