The plants 1st leafs ( w/single blades) always yellow up and die when the plant is starting new healthy growth up top. With out nutrients the plant uses the leafs to give it the nutrients it needs, and when the nutrients get transfered and sucked out the leaf dies. I believe if your nutrient regime is good you wont see these signs but if you are lacking something in the plants diet it will take it from the leaves. (small leaves = micro nutrients.. boron sulfer, etc., big leaves = macro nutrients ...npk) I guess what im trying to say is eventually youll learn how to read the plant and see what they need. Sorrry for rambling and getting of subject a little but i think youll b ok. Soil looks a little dry but im sure you can feel the weight of the container its in OR make sure its moist below the top dry surface ( an inch or 2 down) to feel if a watering is needed soon. If your in soil and going organic the micro heard in your soil will make it to where you dont have to ph any more (assuming your using ro water)...but if your using non organic nutrients ( STOP calling them chem. nutrients people they are synthetic nutrients not made of chemicals but from reducing scientifically from a source .. ie: its not a fake made up nitrogen compound.. its a natural nitrogen based compound reduced synthetically made for early consumption by the plant where as organic compunds need to be broken down in the soil before the plant can consume it) then i recomend watering with a ph of 6.5 to 6.8 with a 10% run off. ( the run off helps to rinse the roots as well so the salt build up gets washed out and you dont end up adding extra stuff to stuff already in the soil, instead its like giving it a fresh start with all nutrients in the new cocktail available if needed) i use smart pots so they breath better and root rot doesnt become an issue. After a while you need to make an adjustment to nutrients while watering (up or down cause plant is lacking or needing) you can do it with out the soil being water logged
. ok im done ranting..hope that helps you and at least one other person out there..so share the info., share your elite cuts with friends, and the most important thing is to learn and have FUN).
