Wheel-Thrown Pottery

Tonight I decided to dive into the social side of RUI, been learning tons on the grow side. I thought i would share my main muse, CERAMICS. I've got 2-3 years of active experience throwing on a wheel. Most were made in high school or at the local theatre where they have art studios in the basement. After my trip to Europe my two main projects are going to be getting a personal grow going and starting my own ceamics workshop. Check a sampling of my work below.

Any other Potters in the RIU house?

Its a great piece, I feel my best created piece is the red vase with blue lip, its form is so elegant, and the lip is dang near the exact width of the belly. And its weight is just about perfect. You can also see a larger more clumsy vase on the fireplace mantle.

I love throwing functional ceramics because the work can be judged quality wise. Its not just art for art's sake, the work holds a purpose in your life. If handles on mugs are too small they are uncomfortable, if something weighs a ton it is cumbersome. Ceramics are microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe and even safe to use in the oven if the stoneware is preheated along with the oven. While in the artistic side the possibilities are endless and combined those two aspects well is gratifying. Man I am such a nerd for this it really ought to be my career.

AWESOME SURFACE DESIGNS, really. That's one aspect I need to work on, the shapes, sizes and colors balance so well. And the color scheme, I dig it fdp.

I've been doing some reading into meditations and breathing and realized how I breathe while throwing is very similar. Deep and full in, and I do not breathe while actually making my pulls on the clay, and then slow steady exhales as I finish the pull. They say your mind finds insight and revelation during the period where the air is held. And that is when all of the thought and change and work goes into the clay. Looks like I am most likely going to start a major in ceramics next fall.
