When Germinating......do you?

When you Germinate your seeds do you put them in the soil as SOON as they pop, or wait until they have a little more root on them, The reason I ask is I started about 20 seeds, they all Germinated but only half came out of the soil!:-( Never had this problem before but interested to see what others do..

Shit thats all up to you bro, some people just pop them in right away without even germinating. I usually wait till a lil bit of the root shows then i pop them bitches in. It takes time, be patience theyll come up. There all different.

I like to wait till the tap root is about 1/4 - 1.2" long.. plus you can see which is growing faster... Luck.

Straight in...less chance of fungal contamination and breaking the tap while inserting is sooo easy to do. You'll know which is the strongest in a week anyways...patience. It's all about patience.

out. :blsmoke:

I just wait till a tiny bit comes out. Maybe an 1/8"
I have had a couple that never broke ground though. Sorry to hear about so many of them not making it

I germinate mine right in the soil, then I don't have to worry about it.

"Ack". Again, I don't know why so many suggest this paper towel method and soaking beforehand. The seed IS getting its soaking directly put in the soil...and like Cracker said, less handling is better. I've only once had a seed not germinate this way....once! And I grow everything under the sun.

High Times June 2009 page 40 "Seeds and Germination" By Jorge Cervantes
Soaking seeds in water allows moisture to pentrate the protective seed within minutes. Moisture continues to wick into activate the doramante hormones. In 24-72 hours, hormones activate and send signals to produce a small white rootlet (radicale).
:blsmoke: That's why I do it.

I would agree but with one caveat and that would be IF someone is growing in soil that will retain enough moisture for a seed to pop.

I grow in the same pine bark that we use at our nursery and it will not retain enough moisture for a bean to pop so I either have to use the paper towel method of fill my pots with pine bark and then make a hole in the center large enough for a small amount of dirt and then keep it moist enough for a seed to pop.

So it depends on what someone grows in if it is practical or even possible to do anything other than the paper towel method.

Putting them straight in soil causes less stress to the plant, look at all the extra handling you have to do while it is in it's most fragile state. Also you run the chance of adding fungus to the roots. The fact that less stress the plant is under the more likely it will be female, well the last one isn't really a fact but I seem to have a higher female to male ratio.

Plus when the fall to the ground in the wild there isn't a blanket of paper towels that comes down to make sure they get started.

Everyone can do what they wish but I'd rather just put them in soil and take out all the extra steps involved. It doesn't really save any time and doesn't make any other difference that I know of, except for the impatient grower being able to see somethingis happening.
