When/how To Harvest???

I'm coming up on my first harvest, and I don't really know what I'm doing. First of all, when should I harvest? The female (which is growing outside) has its top pistils turning brown-ish, but the rest are mostly white. How do I know when to harvest for sure?

Also, I have to be honest since I'm new to growing, but how should I harvest? I've heard of the old "cutting the whole thing down" way, but I kind of want to salvage the plant, see if it will grow pot again. Is this dumb? If I could salvage it, how should I go about removing the bud? Obviously I'm going to have to remove branches and leaves, but it seems the most growth is covering the main stem. Can I just pull most of it off?

This is the worst part, but I really don't even fully understand what the "bud" looks like. Are buds mostly just made up of dense leaves and pistils, or are they real "buds" like on other plants? I've only seen dry buds, so I really don't know exactly what I'm looking for while its still on the plants. Any help would be sweet.

^ I really have no clue why people have such a problem answering simple questions. I think it would be good if peopel actually shared personal experiences instead of being rude and just giving a link to the FAQ

Not to be rude, but I can tell you why people have such a problem answering simple questions. It's not that it's a problem at all. It's that these same questions are asked repetitively, which is why the GrowFAQ was made. The other main reason why someone would give a link to the FAQ is because it explains something like harvesting, step by step, which is a really good place to start. That way, once you have read through everything, and still have questions you can ask more specific ones. To fully explain harvesting in a way that is understandable and detailed enough to follow step by step, it would require more typing than you would think. Your other questions about regenerating the plant can also be answered in the FAQ and just look at some pics of buds man. :joint: Goodluck.

omg just answer the kids question and stop fighting about the FAQ. Harvest the plant when about 35 to 50 percent of the pistils turn brown or red. Then you have to kill the plant, sorry, cut it at the very bottom so there is only like a stump left in the growing pot. Then either manicure the plant now and hang only the buds or just dry the entire plant and manicure after. i suggest doing it after. so bassically all you do is string a line across a room that is about the same size as the growing room, or just use the growing room. then hang the plants or buds up side down and turn the lights off in the room. give it about 1 to 2 weeks and enjoy your weed. just make sure none of the plants touch each other when drying scince this can cause mold

After their grow cycle, the plants die. I heard of a strain called big bad john that is the only perennial cannabis.

You still have to hang the bud to do the black bag method lol! And the black bags are used when you have lots of buds, jars would work just fine. I am not going to use bags, for my nugs are beautiful and perfect and will only pit it in jars.

You don't have to cut the plant at the base. You can just cut off branches that have bud on them, or just cut off parts of branches that have buds on them. once you get the bud off (try and leave as much of the plant in tact as possible) you can throw the plant under some CFL or what ever lights you have under 18/6 or 20/4 or 24/0. The plant will start to reveg (might take a month for it to switch back from flowering to vegging). Once the plant starts to veg and get new growth you can take clone cuttings or you can just keep growing the plant and throw it back into flowering when it looks good to you.

The buds are made up of little leaves, calyxs and pistils, as they mature the tops of each branch builds in size and the tops around it til they look like a solid cluster. When to harvest has great debate as you will find;) some like early while others prefer late or in the middle? As long as the hairs have mostly turned all orangey brown, and trychs are cloudy you should be right. Ive used a 10x magnification glass for inspecting trychs and that duz fine.. Your leaves will yellow and start falling. its natural. Hope thats bit helpful???
