When is the best time to start to flower?

The best time is when you want to start flowering. Base it on how much room you have. Start flowering when the plant is about 1/3 of the max height that it will be able to take up in the end. Your plant will 2x or 3x after switching to flower

You should wait until your plants start to show their sex before going to 12/12. Castenada's bible on growing pot says you increase chances of stunting the plant otherwise.

The other main consideration is size, yield. The sooner you switch to 12/12 the smaller your finished plant will be. So I use how much space I have as a determinant. I have a 8 x 8 foot room with a 1000W set-up and have my pots sitting on a 24-inch high table. I can accomodate 12 plants if I veg early but can look for just 30-50 grams of dried product. This grow I let the 5 plants all get to 26-30 inches before switching to 12/12. Plants are likely to double in size between the time you go to 12/12 and harvest and I expect my yield to pretty much double..

Good luck, BigSteve.

As stated above, it depends.
Consider this:
400W penetrate 1.5-2 feet into the plant
600W- 2-3 ft.
1000W-3-3.5 ft.
Also take into account the plant will stretch 100-150% in the first three weeks of flower.
You need 8-10in. from the canopy to an aircooled light. 12-18in to an uncooled light. From the top of the reflector to the ceiling, you need about a foot. Aircooled can a little get closer.
Hope this helps,
Fred

This won't help or apply to most indoor growers who only grow girls but when the males start to show sex the females are biologically ready too even if they are behind when showing their woohoo's........nature's way!

if its a female you can flower her whenever you want, just keep an eye on space because she will contine to grow when shes flowering.

if your unsure of what gender the plant is wait for it to show itself during the vegging stage, when you know what sex it is either remove it if its a male (unless your breeding) or switch your lights to 12/12 after a couple of days if its a female.

hope thats helped.

*12in is a good hieght to start flowering this is how big i let mine get before switching the lights over.

Iif you have a sexually premature plant started from seed, you are NOT ready.

If you started from a mature rooted clone its Green Lighted.
