Site prep:
If you cant put them straight in the ground in a well prepared hole we use huge smart pots, homemade wire baskets or a nicely formed mound on top of the ground like in clay or rocky areas. If above ground we use 2.5 -3 yds soil. Thats a smart pot about 7 feet across diameter fyi.Gophers and moles can eat roots sometimes severely. So wire on the bottom to prevent that. If using made soil dont go cheap as possible, it will make your first year using it so much easier if spending in mid to high dollar soil mix.
Putting in the ground takes a little knowledge of the soil type and then amending with what it needs.
They are gonna want a lot of water for the year, so picking a good draining soil and an area that drains well is important.
Know your local climate and seasons. Coastal is different from valley is different from mountain zones even within 15 miles of each other.
Right now you should at least start seeds or get some young clones and get them growing.
