I would. But that is the way I do it. It's that initial wait for BUD! That's the hard part to get past. Once you have plants succeeding other plants and have some flow of smoke the waiting is very easy. Your yield will be significantly larger with longer veg times.

HPS in veg causes stretch that you really can do without. Switch that HPS bulb for a MH if possible (meaning your ballast and if you can afford to buy the bulb). Or add some 40-watt CFL bulbs in 6500K over them in addition to the HPS.
