When to give up

Hey guys,

I have 2 different strains growing and both of them are exactly 33 days old. they are only about 2 inches tall and are not growing, or if they are it is extremely slow and not visible to the naked eye.

The weird thing is they are very strong and look good. no signs of anything being wrong except them not growing.

Here is a quick rundown of what I am using

Strain: Dna genetics rocklock and lemon skunk
Soil: Fox Farm Light warrior
Water: filtered tap water with a PH of 6.5 - 6.7 that has been sitting out for a day
Container size: 4 inches high 3 inches wide
Light source: T5 set up
Location: Grow tent with a steady temp of 80 degrees and 40 humidity with great circulation and exhaust.

after 3 weeks i thought they might be getting too many nutes from the fox farm soil so I took them out and washed them carefully and replanted them in vermiculite, perlite and very very little light warrior. that seemed to help a bit, but that was 2 weeks ago.

The soil is now dried out and I am thinking of getting some miracle grow, superthrive and molasses and seeing if that can start anything.

this is just very confusing to me. any ideas?

what size pot u got. remember a plant has to grow the roots out b4 she will grow up.. and if your feeding them to hot then your burning up the roots and shes trying to regrow them... try backing of the nutes for a week or 2. what tell the plant asks to be feed. you will know by the yellowing of the leaves... that means need nitregon...as long as they are a nice dark green then you don't need to feed them.

I'd suggest a bigger pot for your plants. Don't use Miracle Grow. Get some Fox Farms Grow Big/ Big Bloom & Tiger Bloom. It did wonders for mine. If they still look healthy & strong, don't give up on them.

Molasses is for flowering.
May want to try transplanting into bigger pots.
How far away are your lights? I use fluorescent lights as close as possible. Like 2-3 inches.

Dammit Rambler I thought I was gonna b first. >.<

Love this forum.

yes stick with the fox farm for sure. and remember you dont need many nutrients until they get much taller.
it's better to add when the plant tells you than to add too much.

What exactly was it you did when you say that you took them out and washed them? With soil you typically would flush them, which doesn't involved removing them from their substrate. If you do remove them you typically expose the roots as little as possible. If you indeed pulled it up without soil and washed off the roots, there is a good chance you damaged them, which will stunt growth...

Just a thought, might not be your problem...

I make it a rule of thumb not to do nutrients until there's at least 3 nodes. Usually takes 2-3 weeks. I start out w/ Fox Farms Happy Frog soil.

Light Warrior is a soil-less medium (sphagnum based), and it is designed for seedlings. The only real organic nutrients it contains are earthworm castings and granite dust.
The less you mess with the root ball the better, but I agree with the others who suggested a larger container. Depth is the more important factor, the first container should really be at least 4 inches deep to give the tap-root plenty of room. The large plastic 'beer' cups that are typically red or blue work very well, as long as there is a hole drilled in the bottom.

If you're going to transplant again you can do so directly into the Light Warrior, into a container at least twice the capacity as the one it is currently in. With mostly vermiculite and perlite the plant simply wouldn't have any nutrients. Earthworm castings are just about the best organic source of nitrogen there is, and there is no risk that it will burn the plants.

Molasses is for flowering.
Not so, unsulphured blackstrap molasses is good for vegetative growth as well. It feeds microbes in the soil; a great source of potassium and also calcium, iron, magnesium.

I am currently a growing a Rocklock. This is supposed to be a heavy feeding plant. Here is a picture of it at just about three weeks, and again at six weeks.

Sounds like he is using 9 oz Solo cups for starting seeds. I'm thinking re-pot too. Add perlite to soil.

As for molasses, NO!! not at this stage :) save that for when you have some nuggets and are in 12/12 (note: Ellis, I'm going to look into that)

Good luck.

fox farm light warrior has no nutrients in them it has beneficial microbes and only 7 days of nutrients so like the bag says started fertilizing with in 7 days. I recommend general hydro flora nova 2 part (grow/bloom) but you have to shake well every time you use them because the micro nutrients are mixed in each one. or you might use fox farm nutrients also that is why thy are not growing they don't have any N-P-K nutrients

when using a soil less medium or agro ponic medium it is nutrient free and you must add all of your nutrients when you water basically you have a hand watering hydroponic system.if you want to just water your plants and have the nutrients in the soil I recommend fox farm ocean forest or happy frog by fox farm or the organic blend by aurora in camo bags (not the stuff that says formula 707) they all have a 30 day supply of nutrients in them

Bigger pots for sure ! :)

If you have not done it yet ... try taking a snapshot of the root ball i ( and no doubt others ) would love to see it :)

Don't give up man ....Watch how fast the progress now ....And i bet you have a wicked nice rootball ... and that will pay you back later just watch :)

People do all manner of things to try and keep plants as short as possible ... so your doing great :)

I soaked the soil and took it all out. then let the water run over the soil very slowly until it washed it all away and all i had was the plant and roots in my hand. then I put back into the container and used vermiculite, perlite and some light warrior.

now 2 weeks later they still had no movement so today i repotted into bigger containers like everyone suggested and i used light warrior to fill out the container.

Hopefully this will do the trick.

thanks a lot for all your help guys.
