when to start seeds indoor?

hi all im new here and this year will be my first time growing mj(my user name isnt the best since im a noob ig lol) i live with my roommate and hes cool with smoking and all but i really dont want him to know i am growing for he ha a loud mouth. so i am going to start my seeds inside in a seed starting tray along with some peppers and stuff to cover up but i cant figure out when would be the best time to start them so i can plant the plants between the first and second week of may. im kinda confusing myself here i really dont know how to word my question haha...but how long will lite take aproximently for the plants to grow and be strong enough to be planted outdoors around that second week of may. mostly indica im guessing and im gonna be using a heat mat and a seed startng tray with peat cubes. if i dont make anysense just tell me haha thanks.

Well its all up too you and what you want.
I know of a lot of people who started in January and are going for super beasts! 15' tall mega trees. So, its all in what you want sir.

soil is better than peat cubes . I use dirt for cloning. Its hard at first but if you can get it some sun you have a better chance.

Started mine in Jan and just about have them all presexed. This way I can clone if I see something I like and get a full veg on them or just toss them out and watch them grow. Once again I am going for less plants and match my weight from the past 2 seasons. :)

ok-- here ya go..

1st- double check your last frost date for this year! Unless you have a greenhouse or plan to tent the plants, May is a bit early- of course- depending on where you live!!!

2nd- Pre-sprout your seeds! then you plant only the viable ones!

3rd- use root cubes or peat pellets to start them (plant the sprout root down with the shell just showing at soil surface) and put into your tray with a dome for a week or so with a 100w CFL light on 24 hours a day... remove the hood daily to vent for fresh air...

4th- as soon as you see roots outside the root cubes/peat pellet...plant in Party cups with holes gut in the bottom for drainage. Use a good Seed Starter mix or Miracle Grow Organic Choice soil with UN-Fertilized Pearlite added (3 parts soil to 1 part pearlite)
They can grow in these for up to 4 weeks... depending on how fast they grow...

5th- plant them in the right spot where they won't be seen, and learn how to LST them.. the lower they stay the less likely they are to be found-out!

ALL your plants- veggies, flowers, MJ... can be grown like this then transplanted into the ground when it is warm enough... remember to till a big enough hole for each plant and amend the soil if necessary... adding worm castings and Espoma Bloom tone to the soil a few weeks ahead really makes a difference!! ;)

Have fun- but be careful!! Growing outdoors is very risky!

Why bloom tone and not garden tone? Just looking for your reasoning...you sound like you may know better than I.

Make sure you acclimate your plants outside for a couple of days. I'm sure you all ready know, but thought I would mention this just in case you didn't.

Wow Alright! I Just Gotta Wait For My Heat Pad To Get Here And I'll Start!:D I Agree Keep Them Bushy Haha And Defiantly Harden The Plants Off. Thanks All!

When is your last frost date? Are they regular seeds (do you need to sex them)? Some people prefer to plant seeds one month prior to that date. This will vary depending on if you're in Minnesota or Kansas. You can also get away with starting seeds later, say a week before or right on the last frost date. Planting a little later will decrease the odds of transplant shock. If you're going guerilla, I'd throw them out at the end of May because they will still get massive.
