When to top clones for scrog

Hey growers, got a few clones recently and chucked them in my old 4x4. I’ve only ever grown from seed so the node structure is confusing me. I’m planning on putting them under a scrog but I’m stumped on whether you are supposed to top them or not. They’ve been in coco for about a week and a half and have grown a decent amount but I’d still like to wait a little longer before the first topping. My question is, if I do top them do I leave 2 or 4 main branches?

It's down to the individual I think there's no right or wrong, personally I'd leave 4, however I prefer just to let them grow then tie them over at 3/4 weeks then flip and top the branches.
It saves time on vegging with a similar weight in the end.
 
just top when they're about 4 nodes tall, then top as much as you can until everyone of your scrog squares/holes are filled with tops, flip to 12/12 then strip away all the crap below the net.





true scrog every hole needs filling.




if your clone looks something like this with alternate nodes then i'd top halfway down, ignore the red circle as it's just a google image.

That’s exactly what my clones look like, I’ll drop some photos in a few hours when the light comes on.

Do whatever YOU imagine an optimal plant to look. You can do it either way really. The most important thing is to actively work with the plants. There's different ways. I prefer pinching and supercropping in veg. You also have LST(low stress training).

You want an even structure with as many sturdy nodes as possible before entering flower. Foliar kelp/humic at optimal pH 5.8 really trigger auxillary dominance creating new shoots. Also great for root growth.

I stop using kelp in early flower beacuse I want to focus growth on already established shoots instead of creating new ones. Cheers!

I've tied, tipped, topped and fimed maybe I know it as something else?

it's bullshit mate, it's an old larger outdoor farmers way to help the stems on tall sativas not breaking in the strong windy weather days, all it does is strengthen the stem with a knuckle.



i'v seen a side by side test with same plant same light same everything ..... it doesn't work for more dense buds or more yield as most think.






pros: stops ur heavy stems from breaking

cons: stunts growth rate

Sounds like bashing to me. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. If you actually read literature and studied the subject you know topping or breaking a stem on Cannabis or other C3 plants trigger cytokinin and auxin release. If done correctly it actually increases growth.

It feels a little narrow minded to make up your mind from one single test you read online. What do you actually think regarding this subject? Have you tried said techniques?

all they do is fix the damage, it's no super power coming from nothing other than a break, if you understand light feed conversion you can't create energy from nothing, that would be free energy which would mean free buds.

it was a clear test with multiple photos and text over the whole grow from start to finish, same light, same feed, same everything .... it couldn't be more clear.

i have, i used to supercrop the stems 4 times not just once, it didn't do anything other than slow growth.




but then i didn't have a plant to do the famous side by side test .. so who's the fool ?

Sounds like someone's jealous. Are you still living in your mom's basement?. You know techniques and way of growing is really down to personal preference at the end of the day?

Bashing without own logic on why said technique doesn't work is stupid. Of course your sick looking plants can't be worked with. You only reference to "I've seen a side by side online" and then starts bashing.

Grow a pair and give something meaningful back someday instead of bashing without knowing. Good day and Cheers! Happy growing!

I went with a manifold last time and I feel like it divided the main branches up too much and gave me skinny stems with small buds, I still got a good yield but the trimming was timely.
