When to transplant.

Is there a general rule of thumb for transplanting throughout various phases of growth and when to do it?

I'm growing 9 plants (3 different strains) and they are currently in the beginning veg (37 days old from seed) and in 3 quart pots and getting too big for them. I know they need to move up but I won't have the room to flower them all at the same time so I plan on doing two at a time in a tent. I plan to maximize the number of colas by using a combination of LST tie downs and defoliation.

What size pot is good for a 4x4 flower area for two plants SCROG'd? And if I'm only doing two at a time, should I upgrade only the two I want to bring to flower (in about 6 weeks) and keep the rest in their 3 quart pots? Or should I graduate them to an intermediate pot while they await their flower turn?

Sorry if these are noob questions...but I'm a noob. Thanks.

I transplant based on watering frequency (less time = more roots). It's served me well.

Pot size will depend on how big you want the plants to be. I think I'd be more inclined to put four plants in 3 gallon pots for a tent that size. I had one last grow that I lst'd. I pulled 2.25 oz dry and it only used up 20" of space around it. I like smaller pots because you can feed more often.

If you veg the rest for the time you flower the others, you're going to have to transplant or you're going to lock the roots up and they're gonna be huge with that long of a veg period.

Don't plant but 2 at a time a month apart. You can veg forever but without 2 rooms or tents it's hard.
And what about a room and tent within that room? The plan is the have a constant set of plants vegging in a room on 18x6 and another set blooming on 12x12 in a light tight tent within that same room. Feasible?
