I use a DIY organic soil mix, the same mix all the way from about 3-4 weeks old through harvest, repotting several times. During veg, I suppliment with a little Alaska Fish Fertilizer (5-1-1) and a little Mexican Bat Guano (high Nitrogen). During flowering, I suppliment with a little Alaska "Morbloom" Fertilizer (0-10-10) and a little Indonesian Bat Guano (high Phosphorous). Other than that - I just add water!
FOUR-WAY MIX
1 part Top Soil (store bought)
1 part Compost
1 part Perlite (and/or Vermiculite)
1 part "Composted Steer Manure"*
* The 1 part "Composted Steer Manure" can be made up of any type, or combination, of organic fertilizers you would like to use, as long as:
1. That "1 part" of the mix equals 25% of the overall volume of the mix (you can use equal amounts of the other three ingredients as "filler").
2. That "1 part" of the mix should be about as potent as "Plain Old Composted Steer Manure", about (1-1-1) - no stronger than (1.5-1.5-1.5).
3. That "1 part" of the mix should be "fairely well balanced", N-P-K wise (all three numbers should be nearly the same, or identical).
The goal is to provide a soil that is well balanced, but just a little on the "weak side". Then suppliment that with the proper "veg" and "flower" nutrients.
